Glen are All-Ireland club senior football champions after snatching a dramatic late 2-10 to 1-12 victory against St Brigid’s at Croke Park.

Beaten on the very same stage last year, the Derry champions looked set for more heartbreak as they trailed by four points with six minutes to go in the severe wet and windy conditions in the capital.

Michael Warnock’s point gave them hope before their talisman Conor Glass nabbed a Conleth McGuckian pass on a drive forward and smashed to the Roscommon men’s net from some 30 metres out (watch the goal below).

After that, Malachy O’Rourke’s men rode their momentum to the last whistle, with points via Emmett Bradley (free) and McGuckian in injury-time finally getting them over the line to their club’s maiden Andy Merrigan Cup success.

St Brigid’s had the favourites on the backfoot for large portions of the decider, running up a 0-8 to 0-4 lead before Jody McDermott’s 27th minute goal sent the sides in all square.

Brian Derwin’s goal right at the start of the second-half put St Brigid ahead by 1-8 to 1-5 and, having gone four points ahead on two different occasions, the Connacht champions looked on course for glory until Glass’s strike changed the complexion of the game.
