2025 Allianz Hurling League structure revealed

The GAA has unveiled a new structure aimed at reinvigorating the Allianz Hurling League in 2025.

Under the new structure which was approved by Central Council last weekend, there will be seven teams each in Division 1a, Division 1b, Division 2, Division 3 and Division 4. Currently, Division 1 is comprised two groups of six, and the 2024 League will determine which teams compete in the newly-structured Division 1A in 2025.

The top three from each group will qualify for Division 1A in 2025 along with the winners of a play-off between the two fourth-placed teams.

In 2025, the two teams that finish bottom of Division 1A will be replaced by the top two teams in Division 1B which will also feature seven teams.

Full details of the 2025 Allianz Hurling League are as follows:

• Division 1a (7 teams), Division 1b (7 Teams), Division 2 (7 teams) and Division 3 (7 teams) and Division 4 (7 teams)

• Teams in all Divisions will play 6 games in the league – 3 at home and 3 away

• The top two teams in each division will play in a League final each year for that Division

• Promotion will be on the basis of two teams going up each year; Relegation will be on the basis of two teams going down (i.e. top two in Division 1b promoted to Division 1a annually; bottom two teams in Division 1a relegated to Division 1b annually and likewise for Divisions 2, 3 and 4)
