A memorial statue of double All-Ireland SFC winning Roscommon captain Jimmy Murray is to be erected in his home village of Knockcroghery.
Roscommon County Council has granted planning permission to the Jimmy Murray Memorial Committee for a honed limestone statue of the local legend at the Fair Green. The statue will be carved out of limestone donated by Lecarrow Quarries by local stonemason Mark Feeley.
Jimmy, who passed away aged 90 in 2007, captained the Rossies to their only All-Ireland SFC successes in 1943 and ’44.
