2022 Minor Footballer of the Year Tomás Farthing from Galway won't be making the step up to senior with the Tribesmen any time soon as he turns his attentions to rugby.

The An Spidéal clubman, who starred in defence as Galway landed the All-Ireland minor football title last year, claiming man-of-the-match awards in their semi-final and final wins over Derry and Mayo respectively, has been included in the Ireland U19 rugby training squad ahead of matches against France and Wales next April.

Following a series of impressive performances during the U19 Interprovincial Championship, the young scrumhalf was named Connacht Rugby's U18 Player of the Year for 2022/23.

The Ireland U18 rugby training squad for the 2023 Six Nations Festival is notable for the inclusion of Leinster MFC winning Dublin duo Noah Byrne and Paddy Curry.
