Diarmuid O'Connor was in fine scoring form as Na Gaeil secured their first ever senior championship win yesterday.
Flanked by his Kerry midfield partner and fellow All-Ireland winner Jack Barry, O'Connor racked up 1-7, including a decisive 60th minute goal, in his side's dramatic 2-12 to 1-14 victory against Kenmare Shamrocks on the Lewis Road.
The sides were level on 0-7 apiece going into half-time and Sean O'Shea had the chance to snatch a draw for Shamrocks at the death but his '45 fell short.
In Saturday's other Kerry club SFC opener, Spa sprung a major upset when beating Dingle 3-9 to 0-13.
Despite lining out minus the services of injured county star Dara Moynihan, two goals from David Spillane inspired the 2020 intermediate champions to a famous five-point win.
Meanwhile, at Direen this afternoon, Templenoe caused another shock by defeating holders Austin Stacks 2-12 to 1-8.
Elsewhere, Kerins O`Rahilly's triumphed over Dr Crokes at Castleisland Desmonds, 0-23 to 1-16.
