ACL victims Ciaran Thompson and Danny Magill are both hoping to feature in next year’s Ulster SFC quarter-final between Donegal and Down.
The game is scheduled for the weekend of April 25-26, which is the date Thompson and Magill are targeting for their comebacks. Thompson ruptured his ACL in Donegal’s All-Ireland SFC final defeat to Kerry last July, while Magill sustained the same injury while playing for Burren against Castlewellan in the Down SFC a few weeks later.
“I had my op in Santry at the end of August so I’m nearly four months into my rehab,” Thompson said at this week’s Dr McKenna Cup launch.
“Championship is the target, all going well - around April time, but I just have to hit a few markers along the way.
“Unfortunately, I only lasted about 20 minutes of the All-Ireland final. It didn’t go our way on the day - Kerry were the better team.”
Magill said at the same event: “Myself and the physios will go for an aggressive timeline. If it doesn’t happen, it doesn’t happen, but we’re 100 per cent going for it.”
