Kilkenny manager Derek Lyng says he was pleased with his side’s attitude and work rate throughout yesterday’s Allianz Hurling League opener against Clare.
After being seven points down, the Cats finished impressively to record a 0-23 to 0-21 victory over the All-Ireland champions at Cusack Park and ensure a flying start to their Division 1A campaign.
Speaking to RTE Sport afterwards, Lyng said while the Leinster champions were delighted with the two early points, they’re getting carried away
"We don't win down here too many times so it's a good start for us," he stated. "The league is very important for us, always has been. We're looking to build a really healthy, competitive squad by the time championship comes around.
"It's great to be going home with a couple of points on the board. They're the All-Ireland champions. At the same time, we'll take the two points but we're not going to get carried away. We know Clare were down an awful lot today."
On the progress of veteran marksman TJ Reid and goalkeeper Eoin Murphy, who both missed the win in Ennis, Lyng added: "TJ is back training at the minute, and he's making good progress. He's a little bit later coming back and we'll manage that. For TJ, it's maybe the fourth or fifth game in [before he's on the field], we'll see how that goes. The two of them are training away, and training very hard."
