Paddy Tally is Derry's gain and Kerry's loss according to Pat Spillane.

The Tyrone native left his performance coaching role with the Kingdom three weeks ago to take charge of the reigning Allianz League champions.

“Paddy Tally in 2022 was the grain (of rice) that helped Kerry win the All-Ireland,” Spillane wrote in his Sunday World column.

“Without Paddy Tally and his smart defensive set-up and coaching, Kerry would not have won that year.

“I only need to quote one stat to show how effective that system was – six championship matches, one goal conceded and that came from an absolutely brilliant Cormac Costello finish. I’ll distill it down to this. Paddy Tally won that All-Ireland, so he is going to be a huge loss.

He’s stepping into a big job in Derry, but I think he’ll do well. He has huge experience as both a coach and manager. His CV is strong in that he has been there, done that and delivered at the highest levels. And I think that will be invaluable to a Derry side loaded with potential.”
