Kildare LGFA sparks controversy by awarding U16 title to Clane

A general view of footballs.

Kildare LGFA controversially awarded the U16 Division 1 Championship to Clane at its EGM on Monday night.

The decision came after it was reported last week that the county board had agreed to reschedule the final against Kilcullen. The decider was originally fixed for last weekend, but Kilcullen were not in a position to field as 10 of their players were on a sporting trip in Spain, while Clane were apparently agreeable to a refixture.

A statement on Kildare LGFA’s Facebook page read: "Kildare LGFA held an EGM this evening attended by 36 clubs out of 41 clubs. Following a long discussion the clubs proposed and voted to award the U16 Division 1 Final to Clane LGFA."

Kilcullen have until tomorrow night to appeal the decision.
