David Clifford has been nominated for the RTÉ Sport Sportsperson of the Year.

The three-time Footballer of the Year has made the shortlist after starring for Kerry in their Allianz League, Munster and All-Ireland SFC triumphs this year. He faces stiff opposition, however, from the likes of golfer Rory McIlroy (who was crowned BBC Sports Personality of the Year last night), athlete Kate O’Connor and soccer star Troy Parrott.

The Kerry footballers are also in contention for the Team of the Year accolade along with the Tipperary hurlers, the Dublin ladies footballers and the Galway camogs. Jack O’Connor (Kerry football), Liam Cahill (Tipperary hurling) and Cathal Murray (Galway camogie) are in the running for Manager of the Year while, somewhat surprisingly, the nominee list for Young Sportsperson of the Year doesn’t include any names from Gaelic Games.

The RTÉ Sport Awards 2025 will be shown live on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player from 8.05pm this Saturday, December 20.
