Oisin O’Donoghue’s incredible late goal proved the difference as Tipperary defeated Kilkenny by 4-21 to 0-30 at Croke Park to book their first All-Ireland SHC final berth since 2019.

The two old rivals served up a cracking semi-final at headquarters where the Leinster champions had enjoyed the superior start despite Tipp have netted through John McGrath in the eighth minute.

The Cats went on to hold a 0-10 to 1-2 lead ahead of their Munster counterparts finding net again through Darragh McCarthy and then goaling again via ‘Man of the Match’ Jason Forde, with points from Eoghan Connolly (2), Conor Stakelum and Jake Morris steering Liam Cahill’s side towards a 3-11 to 0-16 advantage at half-time.

Kilkenny levelled up things within a quarter hour of the restart thanks to the scores of TJ Reid, Eoin Cody, Jordan Molloy, Cian Kenny and Adrian Mullen and Reid free saw them hitting the front in the 52nd minute.

The sides would be level four more times from there, with Tipp losing McCarthy to a second caution before a Martin Keoghan equaliser for the Cats was wiped out by a substitute O’Donoghue’s remarkable goal at the other on 69 minutes.

Jordan Molloy pulled back a point for Derek Lyng’s men, but they couldn’t get the goal they needed in the closing stages as Tipp saw out a sweet win which sees them now in a showdown with Cork for the Liam MacCarthy Cup two weeks from today.
