Colmcille have set up a Connolly Cup final showdown with Abbeylara after edging out Mullinalaghta in yesterday’s second semi-final at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park.
Despite having Enda Macken black-carded in the 48th minute, Ger Carberry’s men edged a 0-11 to 1-6 victory thanks to late points from Jack Macken and Paul McKeon. St Columba’s, who were without key performers James McGivney and Shane Mulligan, got off to a dream start when Jayson Matthews raised the only green flag in the third minute.
But Colmcille fought back to take a 0-7 to 1-3 lead into the break and did enough in the second half to reach the decider on Sunday, October 13.
Meanwhile, Carrickedmond – who less than a month were preparing for a Longford SFC quarter-final, only for their drawn final group match against Mullinalaghta to be awarded to St Columba's due to a scoring miscalculation - have been relegated from the senior ranks after losing their playoff final to Mostrim by 0-10 to 1-8 last Friday night.
