Clare opened their Munster minor hurling championship defence with a convincing 0-22 to 0-13 victory over Waterford yesterday evening in Ennis.
Marc O’Brien led the way for the All-Ireland champions with five points as they built up a 0-13 to 0-7 lead by half-time.
Gearoid O’Shea (2) and Jack Power struck over pointS early in the restart that saw the visitors narrow their deficit down to three, but Graham Bell got the holders motoring again and the scores of O’Brien and Dara Kennedy down the home stretch would see out the win.

In Thurles, Tipperary edged a battle with Cork by 1-19 to 2-12 to secure an opening win in the competition.
The Premier lads made a superb start as points from Eoghan Doughan and Stefan Tobin, along with Cillian Minogue’s 1-2 contribution, had them in the driving-seat.
Mark O’Brien had netted a goal for the Rebels seven minutes in, but they’d need another via Luke Murphy five minutes before half-time to stay within touching distance (1-11 to 2-6) when the sides went in.
The visitors would get it level after the change of ends ahead of Tipp surging back in front and it was substitutes Aaron Cagney and Jack O’Brien that sailed over the decisive points for them in the end.
