Offaly hurling manager Johnny Kelly has described his side’s packed schedule of seven games in as many weeks as ‘insane’.

The Faithful County secured their ticket back to Division 1 with a 0-24 to 1-18 victory over Kildare in yesterday’s Allianz Hurling League Division 2A final at Laois Hire O’Moore Park. But they won’t have much time to celebrate with three rounds of the Joe McDonagh Cup coming thick and fast, starting with a local derby against Laois – who will take Offaly’s place in Division 2A next year – at Glenisk O’Connor Park on Saturday.

“It's insane to be playing seven games in seven weeks – amateur players,” Kelly told Midlands 103.

“But it is what it is. We won’t use that as an excuse. As I said to the guys the other night at training, we’ll fight to the last man. That’s the way it has to be. You’re in a competition that requires guts and determination, and requires players to give everything until their last breath, and they did that today.”
