Sligo GAA has led the tributes to Colm Mullarkey who managed the Yeats County to a Connacht MFC title in 1968.
The feat wouldn't be repeated again by a Sligo team until two years ago when they defeated Roscommon in the provincial final to end a 53-year wait. The Tubbercurry man also managed the local Vocational School to many titles during the 1960s.
Sligo GAA has described Colm as “a leader and an inspiration to generations of the youth of Sligo and South Sligo in particular. He was the engine behind Vocational School football for decades and he will go down in Sligo GAA history.”
Colm passed away peacefully in the palliative unit of North West Hospice Sligo. His funeral Mass will take place in St John Evangelist Church, Tubbercurry tomorrow morning, followed by burial at Cloonacool Cemetery.
TweetWe are saddened by the passing of Colm Mullarkey. For decades Colm was a mainstay of the community and in particular Vocational Schools football in the county.
