Ratoath manager David Brady and his Summerhill counterpart Conor Gillespie shook hands after they were involved in a sideline altercation in the dying moments of yesterday's Meath SFC final.
Both managers were shown red cards after Gillespie knocked Brady to the ground after he thought the former Mayo midfielder had given him a "dunt" in the back. Gillespie, the ex-Meath midfielder, accepted responsibility for the incident, telling the media afterwards: “To be fair, the fault for that lies on my behalf, I misinterpreted the situation and reacted in a poor way and paid the price."
In an obvious reference to the infamous 1996 All-Ireland SFC final replay melee between Mayo and Meath, Brady joked that it wasn't the first time he was involved in a "shemozzle" and played down the flashpoint.
Late points from top scorer Daithi McGowan, Jack Flynn and Eamonn Wallace handed Ratoath a 0-12 to 0-11 victory and their third Keegan Cup in four years.
