Limerick ace Cian Lynch has been successful in his appeal against the red card he picked up in NUI Galway’s Fitzgibbon Cup final defeat to UL last weekend.

Lynch was issued a straight red card in the closing stages of the decider at IT Carlow, where UL hit an unanswered 1-5 down the home stretch to claim their fifth ever title.

The Hurler of the Year’s suspension did not apply to inter-county but NUIG were keen to see the red card overturned nonetheless.

The Patrickswell clubman is expected to feature in his first Allianz League game for Limerick this Sunday when the All-Ireland champions welcome Cork to the TUS Gaelic Grounds (throw-in 3.45pm).
