It was just like old times at Croke Park where Meath gave Dublin a huge scare before losing this evening's Leinster SFC semi-final by 1-13 to 2-16.

Another heavy defeat to their arch rivals beckoned when the Royals trailed by 11 points at half-time. But buoyed by Matthew Costello's 36th minute goal, Andy McEntee's men battled back to within three points before Dublin's experience told in the closing stages when points from Brian Fenton, Cormac Costello and Ciaran Kilkenny got them over the line.

It was a huge second half performance from Meath who were left to rue a missed goal chance by Ronan Jones when the game was on a knife-edge and also had a penalty appeal turned down in the first half. While Meath exit the championship with their heads held high, Dublin's aura of invincibility appears to be slipping. Never will a Kerry or a Mayo have a better chance of ending their six-year grip on the Sam Maguire.
