Hmmm, as pointed out in an earlier post we have serious issues within the county at present never mind the future for some of these clubs. St John's for all the good work they do must have a serious review of their under age structures and why they are losing players to other codes and the reasons for other potential players simply not interested. In terms of population surely there are 18 players in almost half of Sligo town who could and should be playing for St Johns - the same could be said of Collooney especially with the growth of population there in recent years. Apart from the above clubs the finger of blame is pointing directly at the County Board who appear to have their head in the sand with their outdated coaching policies. We should commission a comprehensive review of our underage games programmes, the coaching staff (who appear to have a job for life) and what they actually have achieved. Schools both national and secondary as to why we have a fall off, a review of where we are NOT getting players from (urban wards, rural areas). Quite simply, there is no requirement to reinvent a wheel as the top counties in Ireland already have blueprints in place and we should be looking at the likes of Tyrone and indeed our neighbours in Mayo to replicate same. Finally, I leave you with this thought, Sligo's population is increasing and set to increase more and yet we are set to losing clubs!

Good to see the spread of clubs getting games (not that it will make the clubs rich) however I'd wager when the business end of championship begins we will see a host of games in a hilly cabbage patch community field in south sligo

Innovative counties like Leitrim, Galway and Roscommon are facilitating their supporters both at home and abroad by live streaming games and should be rightly applauded, especially as many elderly folk would be somewhat reticent to attend, given the current pandemic. Our " knights at the round table" prefer to take the "ostrich approach" by keeping the head down and conveniently forgetting ( because it may cost them some money) about the 1000s of gaels across the globe who would relish the prospect of relaxing on a Saturday evening by watching a live club game. These knights are not thinking outside of the board room, as here is an opportunity to showcase the games, get sponsorship for same, not to mention running advs promoting various Sligo businesses inc Hotels, restaurants etc who badly require injections of people. Replying To ChasingShadows:  "Yeah Tubbercurry has been disgracefully underused this year, the obsession having games with Bunninadden is bizarre. It's a grand facility for a club of their size but it's hardly that good to merit so many important games going there."
Only one reason why important games are held in the narrow hilly field and it is the influence the big Mullah wields over the Kabal despite the fact it is community pitch.

Replying To eoinog:  "Fair dues to you lads, you are out of the blocks early with your predictions. I will need more time to think about them )). In the meantime what are the CCC thinking?. Bad enough to make a mess out of the league and now I see some of the venues for next weekend. The Bunnies/Pat's game in Castleconnor !!!! Mary's/ Farnans in Enniscrone. !!! If there was a full calendar of fixtures it can be hard to accommodate everyone but with no Junior A or Junior B surely there was alternatives. People are not going to travel to these games and when the revenue isn't sufficient from the games all clubs will be hit with another levy of some description to make up the shortfall. And of course the Co Board won't even promote these games on their own website. Why is there no match report from that enthralling League one final on Friday ?"
Well said young Eoin, your observations regarding funding will sadly come to pass especially as the income from Club Sligo has also fallen (little wonder given the poor PR and lack of marketing). Don't agree with the general consensus of the possible demise of Tourlestrane who granted had a relatively quiet league (by their standards), however I'm led to believe they suffered a slew of injuries and thus had an opportunity to trial and integrate a host of younger players. Still the team to beat imo

Tend to agree with Anto and not magpie as Dunne did catch him where you would expect the ball (at hip level). The player slipped into the tackle and it was certainly not a Cheap Shot. As for the comments regarding Tourlestrane physicality, yes they have bulked up (like any other progressive squads) but it fair to say they are first and foremost a footballing team and not the hatchet men you portray. Finally, I will leave you with this when Gaughan went off injured Tour were effectively down 5 ( all excounty) and a Minor starlet who was physically drained between a stupid schedule of University and Minor B games. No many teams in this county will run the Mayo champions down a third of their normal team

Eoin, I respectively suggest it will not prove difficult for the town teams as invariably one taxi would be sufficient to cater for the number of supporters they bring. Yours etc Leyny

Your not serious about a championship match in Ransboro? It and St Michael's don't desrved to be called pitches and make the hilly cabbage patch in Bunnyland look like the Giants Stadium.

"attended 3 games the weekend - 3 simple observations. Tourlestrane are in second gear and winning championship games at ease. Unless Tubbercurry can put it up to them it's all over. Niall Murphy is an outstanding talent and was surely the player of the weekend. ....... from Bloodsub dated early August How correct this person was with the above observation. Tour never had to reach 4th gear in claiming their 4 in a row. Unless the beat themselves there is no team in the county capable of stopping them winning a fifth such is their dominance in terms of skills set, physicality and setup. Good luck to them in their quest for Connacht. Niall Murphy was class yesterday from play, and more is the pity we don't have a few more like him in Sligo. Without him Coolera would be pushing towards relegation and in truth they actually over achieved by reaching the county final.

Cannot believe this, as it is shooting themselves in the foot especially when you consider the standard of fare being served up particularly in the lower Divisions. Dunno where the justification for this is ....perhaps to pay for a few white elephant stadiums they have around the country not to mention fat expenses ?

Totally disagree, it is a forum or a discussion board. After all we had to listen to the Guru Eoinog bladdering on last year how Tubber would win the championship!
