Jaysus don't be pointing finger at Spillane and O'Rourke. The Connolly thing was all over the internet and I think on this site too 24 hours before Sunday Game. All they can be accused of is jumping on the bandwagon.

Leitrim GAA thread - 2 Like(s)
Commiserations to Leitrim on this defeat. It could easily have been Sligo last year and as many posters have referred to, NY brought in better players this year. I think it was 2017 that Radio 1 advertised full radio commentary of New York v Sligo (it might have been Marty Morrissey). There seemed to be a ground swell of opinion that New York were finally going to make the breakthrough and win a match, and RTE wanted to be there for it. Thankfully Sligo came through it, Didn't see the match but it sounds like Leitrim left it behind them with the amount of goal chances missed. Nevertheless, it should be a warning to Sligo. NY got spanked by Offaly last year, but I expect they will be a different proposition now, with the new players and the swagger/belief of a first championship win. I think Sligo will come through but they need to approach the game properly. (Nightmares of 2010 when we beat Galway and Mayo, and then never turned up for the final). Division 4 was a dogfight this year. I had hoped that Sligo v Leitrim would be a dead rubber with both going up. However your loss to Wexford was a killer blow. People slagging Leitrim on this forum would do well to remember that had Leitrim beaten Sligo, they would have been promoted at our expense. And I thought the writing was on the wall after Leitrim went ahead after being so far behind. And Leitrim beat Laois, which Sligo failed to do. So fine margins indeed. I hope you have a good run in the Tailteann cup. If you can play for 70 minutes and get people to take some of the load off Beirne, you will cause teams a lot of problems.

Sligo Covid-19 Breakout - 2 Like(s)
Apparently Sligo CB never asked for postponement as there would be the same issue playing rescheduled match, with 14 day isolation etc. That may be the case but they should have formally asked anyway even if they knew they would be refused. At least GAA would have been forced into a decision. Firstly, for the players that were prepared to play. Secondly because there would have been precedent. GAA said there are contingencies for semi-final and final. Now fast forward a few weeks to a provincial final and potentially a team with COVID cases. Anyone here think there will be walk over in a provincial final? You can bet there would be a postponement then. And if anyone mentions the Sligo case, the powers that be will say Sligo never asked for a postponement, and some crap about having to fulfil Tv agreements. Pro14 rugby had no qualms about postponing televised matches e.g. 2 consecutive Connacht matches where opposition teams had COVID. Nearly whole Biarritz team contracted COVID. So professional setup or not, no one is exempt. It's just that weaker counties are less resourced to prevent it and more impacted when it happens.

Black card madness - 1 Like(s)

Replying To 890202:  "There is nothing wrong with the black card, the problem lies with referees who aren't using it correctly"
Was rightly peed off by Mayo tactical fouling last week. All when Sligo on the break but not in scoring territory. This is as cynical as black card offences. I think there should be a rule like bsketball where after x number of fouls by team, penalty is free shots to opposition. So after x number of fouls regardless of where on the pitch, the free is say a 45 if coming from own half or 13m if in opposition half. Not only that, black cards give automatic 13m free and maybe make them worth 2 points. Another is to given the wronged team possession on half way line after they take their black card free, regardless of whether time is up or not. Problem with black card is punishment doesn't fit the crime and we always hear of taking one for the team. If team is a goal down and black card given, then if they got 2 points and possession it would make things interesting. Iwas at an Afl game recently where a water carrier crossed the pitch between a player and his mark. 50m penalty which meant a goal. The players know not to do it.
