Kerry will face Dublin while Louth take on Mayo following this evening’s draw for the All-Ireland senior football championship semi-finals.
Defending champions Kerry came through a thrilling battle against Tyrone yesterday to put their name in the hat for Sunday's draw and are now set to renew rivalries with the capital men at Croke Park following their win over Galway.
Louth, who could not meet Ger Brennan’s side in the draw for the semis, produced a brilliant display with 14 men to edge out neighbours Monaghan at Croker earlier for their first All-Ireland SFC semi-final berth since 1957 where they’ll meet a Mayo side which saw off Cork by 0-23 to 0-18 yesterday.
The games will be held at Croke Park on the weekend of July 11/12.
The Dubs completed the line-up for the last four after defeating Galway on a 1-25 to 1-21 scoreline at headquarters this evening.
Con O’Callaghan’s point proved the difference between the sides at half-time (0-14 to 0-13), before Rob Finnerty shot Padraic Joyce’s side back in front with a two-pointer three minutes into the second-half.
From there, the Tribesmen would twice move into a three-point lead and looked semi-final bound once a brace from Kieran Molloy was backed up by a John Maher goal in the 55th minute.
However, the closing quarter of an hour saw the capital men digging their deepest, sailing over scores via skipper O’Callaghan (2, 1 free) and Paddy Small before Small won a penalty which saw Liam Silke black-carded for his challenge on the Ballymun Kickhams forward.
Galway ‘keeper Conor Gleeson couldn’t keep out O’Callaghan’s shot to the corner, which made it 1-20 apiece, and despite Shane Walsh putting Galway in front again, a two-pointer from ‘Man of the Match’ Niall Scully swung Dublin back ahead and late scores by Colm Basquel, O’Callaghan (free) and Sean Guiden would ensure it was Brennan’s side that progressed.
