Cillian O’Sullivan has been confirmed as Meath’s new senior football captain for the upcoming 2022 championship campaign.

The Moynalvey attacker takes over the Royals’ captaincy from Shane McEntee after the latter left for Mali last month as part of a six-month peacekeeping tour of duty with the Irish Defence Forces.

Andy McEntee, who is Shane’s father, has since handed the armband to O’Sullivan with full-back Conor McGill having deputised as captain in Meath’s final league outing against Derry two weeks ago due to O’Sullivan’s absence through injury.

McEntee’s charges embark on the Leinster SFC on May 1st when they take on either Laois or Wicklow.
