Former Kerry defender Tomás Ó Sé reckons Tyrone are legitimate All-Ireland SFC contenders this year.

The Red Hands are under new management this season for the first time in more than two decades and picked up their first win of the 2021 campaign last weekend by defeating neighbours Armagh on a 2-15 to 2-10 score-line.

Speaking on the RTE GAA podcast, five-time All-Ireland winner Ó Sé says he can see the Ulster side challenging for the Sam Maguire Cup this summer, especially with Paul Donaghy and Cathal McShane leading their attack.

"I think Donaghy is a find and I suppose a confidence more than anything has jumped out for me," he said. "Yes, he's a brilliant kicker but the confidence of him... he'll add to it and McShane will add to it when he comes back.

"But I do think they're trying to change it up. I do think they're trying to be more direct, I do think they're trying to get their heads up and those players we spoke about - (Padraig) Hampsey, (Michael) McKernan - they have the couple of dogs at the back that are capable of doing it if they get the support and the work-rate when they're up.

"I think when you look at Tyrone as a full squad, they do jump out as a team - can they run, can they have their attackers, have they got a good goalie - they tick a lot of boxes when it comes to it."
