Dr Crokes secured their place in the semi-finals of the Kerry club football championship thanks to a 0-16 to 0-12 win over Rathmore at Dr Crokes Park yesterday.

Having edged out Dingle late on last weekend to move into the knockout stages, the Killarney men made sure of the return to the semis with a hard-earned victory.

Two-pointers by Cian McMahon and David Shaw (free) helped the holders to take in a 0-11 to 0-8 lead at half-time, with the scores of Ciaran Collins helping Rathmore to reduce their arrears in the run up to the break.

Shaw and McMahon (free) pushed the Crokes lead back out to five early in the restart, but the visitors would trim the deficit to two after raising white flags via Fionn Murphy’s ‘45’ and back-to-back points from Alan Dineen and Cathal Ryan.

Kerry forward Micheál Burns steadied Dr Crokes’ ship with a brace of points and Tom Doyle would round off their tally with another score as they now progress to the last four.

This afternoon’s games in the Michael O'Connor Cup race see Spa hosting Dingle (1pm), Templenoe welcoming Kenmare Shamrocks (1pm) and Na Gaeil travelling to face An Ghaeltacht (4pm).
