Niall Morgan has revealed how a chat with Johnny Sexton helped him to kick Tyrone into the All-Ireland SFC quarter-finals.
The veteran goalkeeper showed nerves of steel to slot over a late two-point free and give the Red Hands a dramatic 0-22 to 1-18 victory over Mayo in a pulsating All-Ireland Round 2A encounter at Healy Park.
"We met Johnny Sexton in the campus at Easter time, whenever we were over, just by chance. A few of us got to chat to him and he just said about the importance of going through your routine and taking your time," Morgan told BBC Sport NI.
"At the end of the day, you're there to do a job and sometimes it's not the nicest or the easiest of jobs.
"Some days you're well ahead and you're going to hit the free kick. To be going up to hit one that ended up winning the game is a wee bit special.
"Just trying to relax and get your breathing down and just thinking about what you're going to do."
Meanwhile, Malachy O’Rourke praised the Tyrone fans for being his side’s 16th man.
“I have said it before that when we have a big support out it is massive and there is no doubt that it helped us get over the line there today,” the Tyrone manager enthused.
“You go out and play for the jersey and fight for every ball and go right to the final whistle.
“When you do that, the support will get behind you. It was tough and tense and we knew what Mayo were going to bring as we watched them against Monaghan. We knew that it was going to come down to the last 10 minutes and I felt that we showed great leadership, great courage and composure towards the end when we needed those scores.”
