Tipp minor captain allowed to make speech after epic All-Ireland final victory

The GAA recently moved to reinforce the rule which precludes victorious minor captains from making acceptance speeches.
The rule was introduced in 2010 to relieve the burden of public oration from young players, but wasn’t enforced strictly in recent years. However, the Kilkenny and Mayo captains didn’t make speeches after their respective Leinster MHC and Connacht MFC final triumphs earlier this summer after Croke Park reminded provincial councils of the rule.
But it appears an exception was made last Saturday when Tipperary captain Cathal O'Reilly delivered a superb speech after being presented with the Irish Press Cup by GAA president Jarlath Burns in Nowlan Park.
It crowned an unforgettable afternoon for Tipp who defied all the odds to see off hosts Kilkenny by 2-17 to 3-12 after extra-time after having two players sent off in the first half of normal time.
