Mayo LGFA have invited Liam McHale back into the process of being their next senior manager.

McHale was reportedly offered the job last week and was due to be ratified last weekend, only for the county board executive to reject the interview committee’s recommendation. The legendary midfielder – who recently departed Kevin McStay’s senior men’s management team after just one season – subsequently withdrew from the process, but is now back in the running after Mayo LGFA admitted that the procedure to reject him was ‘flawed’.

In a Facebook post yesterday, Mayo LGFA explained: “Interviews were held on Wednesday, 4th October for the Mayo LGFA Senior Inter-County Manager position. The Mayo LGFA Executive met on Friday night, 6th October to discuss the recommended candidate put forward by the interview committee. Following a lengthy discussion, a secret ballot took place. The outcome of the ballot was not to accept the recommendation of the interview committee.

“It was subsequently discovered that the procedure’s manual, as ratified by the clubs and followed by the executive, was flawed.

“At a County Board meeting tonight Tuesday, 10th October it was agreed by the delegates to invite the recommended candidate, Liam McHale, back into the process. He will be contacted by the County Board in due course.”
