Westmeath GAA plans to raise the height of its ball-stopping nets at TEG Cusack Park after 40 sliotars were lost at the recent Allianz Hurling League Division 1A game against All-Ireland champions Limerick.

Westmeath chairman Frank Mescall told delegates at last week’s county board meeting that the project would begin next month and would dramatically reduce the number of sliotars and footballs that are lost at the Mullingar venue, which has a Dunnes Stores outlet and an apartment complex at either end of the ground.

“It’s badly needed. The Referees Coordinator informed me that, at the Limerick game, they lost 40 sliotars. So, it’s (the raising of the ball-stopping nets) very badly needed,” Mescall said.
