The Government has brought forward the increase in spectator numbers at sporting events to “facilitate increased attendances at matches” this weekend.
Minister of State for Sport Jack Chambers revealed in a tweet this morning that the changes will come into effect from this Saturday.
That means 500 supporters will be permitted to attend championship games where the venues have a capacity in excess of 5,000.
The announcement comes after this Saturday's Leinster SHC semi-final double-bill was switched to Croke Park to enable 8,000 fans attend.
It is a designated test event at GAA HQ to allowing larger numbers of spectators attend matches once again.
TweetSmall but important change for sporting events. The increase in spectator numbers is applicable from this Saturday July 3rd to facilitate increased attendances at matches this weekend. Further proposals on increasing capacity & matches are being developed for July and August
