Donegal 2-9
Derry 0-11
First-half goal from man of the match Caolan McGonagle and Odhran McFadden-Ferry were crucial as Donegal advanced to the Dr McKenna Cup final at Derry’s expense in Ballybofey last night.
The hosts enjoyed a 2-5 to 0-6 advantage at the change of ends and the Oak Leafers were unable to bridge the gap after the resumption.
Donegal’s talisman Michael Murphy came off the bench in the 43rd minute and contributed a pointed free to his side’s winning tally while midfielder McGonagle top scored for the winners with 1-2.
Early scores from Enda Downey (2), Niall Toner and Paul Cassidy gave Rory Gallagher’s Oak Leafers the early initiative but the game swung in the winners’ favour after McGonagle’s 18th minute goal.
Declan Bonner’s charges now advance to a final with Monaghan this Saturday in Healy Park (5pm).
