Gaelic Games could feature at future Olympics

Former GAA president Liam O’Neill sees no reason why Gaelic football and hurling can’t become Olympic sports.

With GAA participation increasing worldwide and sports like skateboarding and surfing being added to this year’s Olympics, O’Neill believes we could see GAA at the Olympics by 2040.

"It has relevance, you need to look over the horizon to see what could happen," the Laois man said on Midlands 103.

"Who would have imagined the growth in Gaelic Games in Europe? In 1999, the then GAA president Joe McDonagh founded what was the European county board with four teams. There are now over 100 Gaelic Games teams playing across Europe.”
