Skbellew to pip Mullagh in the intermediate. Good hurlers all over the pitch. The work they've done over the last 10ish years in underage coming to fruition. Remarkable to be fair to them. Its all well and good having good underage players but they have kept hold of them and have a nice age blend at this point. Not to be negative, but should they now be two seperate clubs? The idea of an amalgamation is to field teams and develop. They've done that in spades and are now a force at intermediate level. Or is that amalgamation there to stay? Are Skbellew really that good I wonder.... Kilconeiron, Mullagh and Skellow all qualified from the same group with Skellow getting late goals to pip both Kilconeiron and Mullagh by 1pt in the group games where Kilconeiron and Mullagh were very much wasteful and complacent. Kilconeiron and Mullagh are different animals now and vastly improved since the start of Knockout phase? I'd expect Kilconeiron to beat Meelick-Eyrecourt and Mullagh to set the record straight with bells on v Skehana Mountbellew Moylogh....in fact I think Skellow could get a terrible clattering! DE-malgamation is actually a very interesting topic imo! Is there examples of it happening? In theory why should SMM seperate out, if they keep progressing why not aim for the senior all ireland some day? If Woodford and Ballinakill could both field intermediate teams, would Tommy Larkins be redundant? or if the could both field Junior teams? I'm not saying there's a right or wrong answer. Club GAA is very cyclical, Kiltormer have their all ireland and if for example they were to merge with someone, they are giving up their chance of every replicating that, even if its 100 years down the line* Overdahill (Galway) - Posts: 155 - 08/10/2026 16:03:20 2696621 Link 1 |

You've answered your own question there. They've already beaten the two teams you've picked to make the final, so they're obviously good for intermediate this year. Their tradition is an improving club, both underage and at adult level. Intermediate form lines can mean very little at times though. It was a strange Intermediate Championship so far...I would have had my top 10 in no particular order...Tynagh Abbey-Duniry, Ahasragh-Fohenagh, Ballindeeren, Kilconeiron, Meelick-Eyrecourt, Kilnadeema-Leitrim, Mullagh, Kinvara, Carnmore and Portumna Then the rubbish Beagh, Pearses, Rahoon-Newcastle, Skehana Mountbellew Moylogh, Killimor and Ballygar! Still expecting the "Premier Junior " to be a yo yo Championship whoever gets relegated from Intermediate bounces straight back up the following year! Already looking like Abbeyknockmoy are dancing that tune and look to be clear favourites by a nose to win!! katser (Galway) - Posts: 2954 - 09/10/2026 13:31:53 2696687 Link 1 |

Nothing strange about it. Anyone following recent years would have seen SMM as a real threat at Intermediate. Bearing in mind that we have a proper senior now of 16 teams, it shows the improvement SMM have made, that they're close to reaching it. Sylane have looked much more impressive than Abbey in Junior so far. That's not to say they'll win it, but they've performed much better to date. Your rankings seem about 20 years out of date in some cases. WanPintWin (Galway) - Posts: 3111 - 09/10/2026 18:15:03 2696718 Link 2 |

With regards to Kilconeiron and Mullagh in Intermediate and Abbeyknockmoy in Junior, its like cycling a bike uphill against the wind for the group stages....slow and steady, but then for cycling downhill with the wind for the knockout stages they have the momentum and are clicking into gear at full pace. SMM and Meelick-Eyrecourt and also Sylane seem to go full throttle uphill for the group games and now the chain will come flying off!! katser (Galway) - Posts: 2954 - 10/10/2026 12:55:31 2696747 Link 1 |

Mullagh are improving from the group stage games but I'd be surprised if they can hold that Skehana Mountbellew Moylough forward line at all. The two Lohans, McDonagh and Roche on paper should be way too strong up front at intermediate level. They've all played for Galway at underage or senior level. galway19 (Galway) - Posts: 1123 - 10/10/2026 16:53:56 2696759 Link 1 |

I think Craughwell can beat Loughrea, Alan Callanan & Ryan Howley deserve a look by Galway, They have momentum since Ardrahan game. Likewise, Tommies get great lift from beating Turlough and getting past Qtr Final. Loughrea & Clarinbridgecwill be Favourites, but there will be a shock if not two. There will be no shocks. Loughrea and Clarinbridge all the way. Imagine a packed Kenny Park. Unfortunately all we can do is imagine. Pearse stadium shambles last year.

Even the Co. Semi Finals aren't a double header in Kenny Park. It's OK for Loughrea to play the Reeves Cup Final before their Seniors play the Semi Final but not for poor Tommy Larkins who have to play their Junior A Final after their Seniors play the Semi Final?? Hypocrisy!! Not 100% but I think if it's Loughrea are beaten they will have access to everyone afterwards. While Larkins, if they have anyone involved who could potentially feature, the management may not use them so they're not ruled out of the Sunday game. Ah, I see. Thanks. Do Larkin's not have a Reeves cup team and if so why not? Is this Junior A team Larkin's second team? Even if it is can anyone playing Junior A (and no senior) all year realistically expect to appear in a Senior County semi final and make a difference? That is a big step up in standard. If Larkin's lose on Saturday I don't think this will be the reason! If Loughrea lose they will have some extra players available but what state will they be physically to play again less than 48 hours later!! That would be worse than playing in Europe in Midweek and playing at 12:30 on the Saturday on BT:) Professionals can't manage it. Id like to see Tommy's and Craughwell winning at the Weekend. Would the best player or players at Junior A level be needed for a team playing at senior county final level? I'd imagine their senior team would need to have a lot of injuries before it would become worth considering drafting them in.

It is an issue because in my book the Co. Semi Finals have always been a highlight and always a double header with a huge crowd. Have the Senior Semi Finals double header Sunday and move the Junior A Final to Saturday. Give poor aul Tommy Larkins their day out at a packed Kenny Park 8000+ as the traditional Co.
