Seán O'Brien has gone into some size, don't think he's 18 yet so probably still growing but his S&C work would put a lot of others in the county to shame, a lot of that is probably because gym culture is a bit non-existent in Wexford unfortunately"
How did he fare for Cushinstown on Saturday? From what I hear the work he puts in is incredible would love to see him feature for our seniors in the walsh cup. Other counties arent afraid to play their best young players and neither should we

Scored 1-12 from a total score of 2-16 against Shels with 0-4 of that coming from play .. That is a fair contribution from an 18 year old.

That is impressive to be fair to him. As I said I believe he is made of the right stuff to really make an impact for us at senior level straight away

I'd be surprised if he isn't playing for our Seniors in Championship next year, whether that'll be as a starter or off the bench is another question

He's probably the best underage talent we've had since ROC but equally, the standard of Senior forwards he's up against in terms of competition isn't where we need it to be

Yes spoke to a Cushinstown man, said he was unreal. They had a very good minor team this year so you'd expect them to be pushing next year to win Inter A.

Yes backs are poor, Blackwater scored three goals at the weekend and really should of had another couple, playing direct hurling. Still always good to see new teams in the final and we will have one whether its Askamore or Davidstown.

You can only beat what's in front of you but remember it was Shels 2nd team. Jamie Kennedy and Darragh Ryan are putting in similar performances from play v Senior teams.

Would agree with you Jamie Kennedy and Darragh Ryan look like exciting talents too. We need lads like this to push on over the next few years. In senior Colin Carley has also impressed me any day ive seen him

Jamie Kennedy and Darragh Ryan may be playing against better opposition but they're also playing alongside better teammates

Don't know if it matters too much whether or not it's Shels's 2nd team, they're still better than a good few clubs's 1st teams

Darragh Ryan is averaging around 2 from play per game, Jamie Kennedy a little more. As with Sean O'Brien both are u20 again next year. As are Colin Carley, Jack Nolan, Conor Fanning, Adam O'Connell Byrne and Ryan Doran.

I think Rathnure's hunger could sway it but if Rory is actually back that could have a huge bearing. Tough one to call between Gorey and Shels too. I would give a hesitant vote to Gorey in that one.
In the intermediate Davidstown are the story causing shocks between Bunclody and now Crossabeg this weekend. They wont fear Askamore it will be a 50-50 game a great chance for both teams to get to a County final.
Cloughbawn and James' is another tough game to call. Cloughbawn probably have the better hurlers but the James' just dont know when they are beaten as proven again on Saturday in their win over the Alley.
Its all to play for cant wait for the Semi final weekend now."
I agree it's 50/50 with Rathnure and Martins. I wonder would the fact that St Martins are involved in the football have a bearing as they are out every week compared to Rathnure who have a weeks recovery. Only 6 teams have won both the senior hurling and senior football championships and St Anne's the only team to do the double. Would St Martins fancy their chances at the double also?

Didn't think Gorey were in great shape at start of the championship, and like another poster said don't have the killer instimct to put teams away. I think shels will have too much for them and have been going under the radar as most of the focus has been on Rathnure and St Martins

Im glad the draw worked out for Davidstown and Askamore on one side as I would love to see either side in the final. Davidstown are bit of a Cinderella story. Junior 4 years ago, clubhouse destroyed in storm 10 years ago and a lot of work put in with their grounds, small numbers compared to senior clubs and majority of intermediate clubs and now 60 minutes away from Intermediate final. Askamore have been there or there abouts but never kicked on and have a great chance now. St James have also been down this road before. I don't think they are as strong as previous years but they always fight to the end and will certainly put it up to Cloughbawn. Cloughbawn have been favorites for past 2 seasons and got caught on the hop with Fethard last year. If they don't get over the line this year I would worry for them. Nothing happening at underage joined with Ross at minor, 2nd team now in Junior B which is too big of a gap in standard of hurling for your 1st team subs. Could be Buffers Alley 2.0

Cloughbawn have plenty of good young players coming through. Aside from around half their Intermediate team being less than 25, their combined minors, who are mainly from Cloughbawn, only lost the Roinn 2 Cup final to St Martins by a goal. And they have plenty of good prospects coming all the way down to u12.

Buffers Alley also have good young lads coming. Whether thats enough to get either club established at Senior in the coming years is another question though.

I really thought Alley would have kicked on over the last 2 / 3 seasons with an influx of very good minors and U20s .. but they haven't .. Last 3 years have been pretty poor from a team that have aspirations of winning Intermediate. St Annes were always able to bring 1/2 lads in every year which was able to keep them very competitive. I wonder now do they need more than that number to rebuild some of the aging positions on that team. Rathnure prob suffered a very similiar fate - an aging team in 2014 / 2015 and just not the players coming through to replace it. Oulart have suffered the same faith.

Hurling365 relaunch next week - interesting to see what the advice / direction will be. It has been very successful in some clubs / schools.

Viking you keep coming back to numbers. That is only an easy excuse for failure. If Rathnure and Fethard can be successful as in one of the best hurling teams in Rathnure and dual Senior for Fethard then basically there is no excuses for any other club. There are many more reasons why teams are successful or unsuccessful other than numbers. I noticed on the minor clubber commentary only 4 Monageer boys up to the age and only 7 Glynn lads. If there success was number driven they would have way more up to the age. I dare to say they are two of the younger teams age wise in the top 2 Divisions.

Hurling 365 is an excellent idea, but for it to work it needs proper buy-in from clubs and schools. Hopefully good local club coaches and good teacher coaches will get involved in every national school in the county.
