Replying To hownow1:  "I think Meath Football Championship was like that up to recently. They drew Group A/B/C into 4s, then drew A, B or C out of another pot. The group that came out only two went through but their was no relegation jeopardy, the other two groups three went through but the 4th place team in both were in relegation final. Element of pot luck and probably not ideal but I do think something has to be done. So many lads in clubs have played every minute 9 weekends on the trot! It would be interesting to compile a report of an injured list for each club, I'd say its shocking how many lads carrying knocks, niggles and some more serious."
That Meath system was an interesting one, but to the best of my knowlege, they moved away from it after a couple of instances where the bottom team in the "safe" group was generally regarded as probably the weakest in the county, but who couldn't be relegated anyway due purely to the luck of the draw. And meanwhile, a "stronger" team from one of the other groups went down instead.

But as you say, no system is perfect. If there was a perfect system, somebody would have found it by now, and we'd all be using it!

No. But we're in the minority.

The counties closest to it - i.e. Laois themselves, along with Carlow and Kildare - have no adult matches this weekend, specifically because of EP.

Then there are a few like Kilkenny, where there are no adult matches this weekend mainly because of how they really only run championships in one code - e.g. in Kilkenny at this time of year, they alternate between adult hurling one week and minor hurling the next (instead of going between adult hurling and adult football like we do), and they've arranged it so that this weekend is a minor hurling weekend.

But from what I can see overall, there are adult club matches fixed this weekend in probably 24 or 26 of the 32 counties. I wonder if there's the same outcry there about players deserving a weekend off to go on the sesh?

Louth, Meath, Monaghan also dont have any Senior Football games scheduled for today or tomorrow. Waterford, Clare, Tipperary and Offaly have no Senior Hurling games this weekend. Limerick only have 1 Senior and 1 Premier Intermediate Fixture today or tomorrow. Cork only have 1 Senior Hurling game I think. Mayo have no adult games scheduled. Donegal have only 1 Senior and 1 Senior B Football games, and 2 Senior Hurling. Tyrone have no Senior games. Down only have 3 Senior Football fixtures. Antrim only have 2 Hurling. Dublin are playing hurling this weekend, not Football.
The only counties with fullish programmes of games in their primary code, or at all, that Ive found are Derry, Galway, Roscommon, Longford and Kerry.

I hope anyone that does go has a ball .
Is nt it better they can go withiut having a choice of letting the team down or let their mates and partners go without them qake up lads its the right thing to do .

Incorrect. There's no separate weekends for minor and adult. Minor takes place usually on Tuesday/Wednesday. There's been adult matches in kilkenny every weekend since the weekend after the all Ireland. No senior last weekend but there was intermediate and junior matches

You must have gone through the fixtures pages of 32 County Board websites!

But just to point out Waterford do indeed have a senior hurling match this weekend. Their senior county final. And county finals in two other grades too. Also to point out that the question was if Wexford is the only county to stop all games. The ones you mention as only having a handful obviously haven't stopped all games.

And had a quick look at websites of some of the counties you mention:
- Louth have Senior, Intermediate and Junior championship matches listed for today and tomorrow.
- True that Meath don't have Senior Football matches this weekend, but they do have Senior and Intermediate Hurling.
- Monaghan have League football matches and Hurling Championship semi-finals.
- Have already mentioned how Waterford do indeed have matches this weekend.
- True that Clare don't have Senior Hurling matches this weekend, but they do have Senior, Intermediate, and Junior Football.
- Much the same with Tipperary. They don't have Senior Hurling, but they do have Senior Football.
- And Offaly also may not have Senior Hurling, but they do have Senior Football.
- Tyrone have no Senior games but they do have Intermediate and Junior.
- The other counties you mention, you tell yourself how they have at least some matches.

So again bearing in mind that the question was is Wexford the only county to stop all matches, I reckon it's still a valid answer to say no, but there's no more than a handful doing the same.

Apologies. Am I correct in at least thinking that was the way in other years?

Either way, still the case that you're one of the handful of counties with no adult matches this weekend, and still the case that you're able to do so largely because you don't have to alternate adult hurling with adult football at this time of year. And that's not a dig with you over football, by the way. If you're familiar with my other posts on this forum, you'll know that I've more than once pointed out how despite the way it's often knocked by others for "ignoring" football, Kilkenny has a lot more football than many other counties have hurling.

Sorry I must have picked up your post wrong so. The impression I was getting was that we were one of only a very few counties whose fixtures were unaffected by EP.
There are very few Senior fixtures in Louth this weekend, with none on clubbertv.
All the other counties mentioned there have massively reduced numbers of fixtures compared to last weekend or next weekend. Limerick played most of their fixtures on Thursday night apparently, I was talking to a friend who plays club hurling up there just this morning in relation to schools hurling.
