Don't remember anyone saying soft run to the great Galway 1998 team…? Derry and Kildare. Kerry beat Cavan and Mayo to win in 1997. History remembers winners and how you get there or who you beat means nothing in the end up.

Best of luck to the Galway hurlers next Sunday. Connacht is the poor relation when it comes to All Irelands and it would be great to see both Liam and Sam in Connacht together for the first time ever.

Well I've heard it levelled a fair bit at that team but your point is fair, the winners will always be remembered regardless of the route. Best of luck to ye whether it's Kerry or Dublin in two weeks time

Wouldnt call that kildare team soft. They were brilliant in 98 and im pretty sure were strong favourites going into the final.
We also beat a mayo team who reached the previous 2 finals and roscommon werent bad around then either.

Yes Yew tree forgetting the win in Castlebar that year, straight knockout, against the All-Ireland finalists..

No team in History hashadthe easiest run that Mayo have had..and losing two games...

Congrats. to Mayo. They put up a big score which is always a good sign regardless of the quality of opposition. I think every true connaught supporter should now wish the "Kobe - for one year only!" brigade the best of luck in the final.

Fair play to Andy for bringing his kids up to the post match fireside chat. It reminded me of Elon Musk in the white house.

Looks like Mayo are going to honour the 25th anniversary of the last Connacht Senior success.

I think Belclares statement might be motivated by previous statements from outside sources, devaluing Galways previous successes. But despite Mayos apparent "easier" draw there is no devaluing the merits of whoever wins this year... its been the highest quality and most competitive championship ever and if mayo win they will have played ros, monaghan, tyrone, meath, cork, louth and kerry.. no soft touches.
Lets embrace Mayos potential success , not attempt to tarnish it before it even happens. And by the way Mayo need commended for a high quality style of play, polar opposite from us unfortunately.

They have a great chance and will be firm outsiders.
It's a step up though from Cork and Louth. Will Clifford be quiet 2 days in a row, will Mayo man mark Paudie, and who'll pick up Kobe McDonald. Should be tactical enough and the likes of Cian O'Neill and Paddy Tally will earn their crust

Dublin did everything needed to win the game yesterday apart from one thing on their side and one which was outside of their control. They were very wasteful with their chances and very unlucky with crucial decisions which went against them.
From about halfway through the first half to the end, they got a huge amount of joy on Kerry's kickout. They picked up the majority of the breaking ball. They forced a lot of turnovers. They kept most of Kerry's key forwards very quiet. Dylan Geaney was almost a non-factor. The pressure they got on the Kerry forwards was very impressive. Dublin had far more scoring chances than Kerry.
If Mayo can somehow do the same, they have an inside line who can score. It'll be very difficult though. I'm not sure they have the physicality Dublin had yesterday around the middle and in defence.
Hoping for a double for the west. My God we're overdue.

Entitled to your view but that's an exaggeration.

For a start it's the 2nd year in a row we had such a one-sided semi final with Louth,Meath unable to produce a competitive performance.

Kerry v Dublin yesterday wasn't close to the high quality contests between the two over the last decade or so and most are talking about debatable calls now than match quality.

You can get cagey or one-sided All-Ireland finals however All-Ireland semi-finals is the true showcase of the sport and the two games should be either high quality or competitive. 2021 to 2024 I might add had this list All-Ireland semi-finals and football was meant to be dead then?

Mayo beat Dublin by 3 AET
Tyrone beat Kerry by 1 AET

Galway beat Derry by 5
Kerry beat Dublin by 1

Dublin beat Monaghan by 7
Kerry beat Derry by 2

Armagh beat Kerry by 2 AET
Galway beat Donegal by 2

You can not take the semi finals in isolation as the barometer. You have to look across the season with so many shock results, brilliant games, moments of magic, standout unreal performance including the mayo louth semi final which despite being a bit one sided had loads of quality. I would say if you did a poll across football supporters you would find that is not one bit of an exagerration to say that this year was the best yet for football.

Of course you can isolation as knock football in Croke Park where the stakes are high as they are in All-Ireland semi-finals is the ultimate test for any new rules.

A lot of what went before was non jeopardy games with safety nets places something that your poll and your own opinion would be too influenced on.

I definitely think it is an exaggeration. Kerry were playing much better last year, and still are raging favourites to win this year. That alone doesn't suggest that this year is the best vintage ever. I thought 2005 was an exceptional championship, with Tyrone involved in numerous fantastic games. I do agree that this Mayo side are a great watch in recent outings, playing an exciting brand of football.
