Kerry 2022-Current Team Better Than 04-09 Team?

Replying To Seniorleague:  "Always thought tyrone were a good bit better than kerry in 05,the 3 point gap between the teams at the end flattered kerry.

The 08 final was a cracker, with Tyrone being just that bit fitter than kerry going doen the home stretch."
I think that's fair. Kerry just couldn't get to grips with Tyrone in 2003 or 2005. They kept carrying it into contact and getting turned over, and the better team won both days. Kerry looked shell shocked in 2003 in particular. That Tyrone team had ruthless forwards that made you pay for every mistake.

2008 could have gone either way. Kerry were going for the three in a row that day and all the talk was of Kerry putting previous losses behind them. I think this gave Tyrone all the bulletin board material they needed and the hunger from it got them over the line.

Moynihan won a POTY and several All Irelands in the 00's

O'Se and Gooch were fine against Tyrone. The team came up short against a better opponent on the day. It happens to every great team. Even the recent Dublin six in a row side lost a game eventually.

I think without Clifford this team is the equal of any other team. With Clifford we'll generally be 3-4 point favourites. Home advantage is worth 1-2 points, so I see Kerry at Croke Park as being maybe 2 point favourites against Dublin. So we most certainly can lose against them. Just like we can lose to Galway, Tyrone or Armagh on a given day. But suggesting the team is ordinary without Clifford means you think all of those teams are ordinary and I think that's unfair

Dylan Geaney better than the O'Sullivans. All star and Player year contender

You're correct, there was nothing in the 08 game until last 5 minutes. Tyrone hit a purple patch in last 5 minutes and that was crucial. A toss of a coin in all those semi final and finals all the way through the 00s.

I think Goochs early eye injury in 2005 was very unfortunate for Kerry. He was flying at that stage and you could visibly see it affected his game afterwards. Whether it'd have change the result is debatable but Kerry needed him on form to win.

Two great teams full of wonderful players.
