Armagh Overrated

(Oldest Posts First)

Just like Donegal a lot of hype about Armagh. Lucky avoid relegation, won a Ulster championship, nobody took serious. Hammered the gap last year against Kerry having won soft All Ireland year before. IS this Armagh team overrated?

No, but they have definite weaknesses.
Like their team from the 2000s, they can be a bit ponderous and don't put teams away when on top.
It's even more dangerous under the new rules.

Unfortunately, they are not over rated in my opinion. They have a hell of a squad and if you look at their championship results in normal time over the last couple of years they will feel that they are short 2 or 3 ulster titles minimum.
Last year Kerry came out and showed everyone who was boss. I expect Armagh to win in Tralee but Kerry at home will be hard to beat, Donegal were winning at half time but the sending off assured us of the win, Every week Kerry are getting stronger so this I would suggest is the best time for Armagh to play them.

I don't think they are overrated tbh.

I personally think whoever prevails in Killarney, will win Sam.

Agree. Apart from Conaty, have they got many outstanding players. I would argue no. Their fullbackline is suspect and not overly sure about their midfield. They are a good solid team but no better than 6 or 7 other teams.

I think it's more your dislike for them that's obvious.

I think that it may be time for McGeeney to step down. Oisin McConville doing a great job down in Wicklow must surely come into the reckoning.

Tbf to McGeeney,Armagh have alot of players missing at mo.He has done great work and is a class act.Alloes his number 2 s to do interviews when they win but always faces the press after a loss.I admire him.

They are as pundits and journalists have rated them as highly and by some higher than their All-Ireland winning team in 2024 when their 1st choice team then and now plus strength in depth isn't as strong and they have major issues defensively that was seen all year be it in Division 1 or when Fermanagh who scored 1-24 against them. Defensively they were torn apart by a kerry team who are still just getting a handful of starters up to speed. We all know how good David Clifford is but the time and space he was given to cause the damage he did was ridiculous.

Armagh are a quality outfit. The current game can see momentum take games away and good teams can control it from that point. We saw that by Donegal against Kerry. Today the momentum really swung Kerry's way with that goal before halftime. Armagh won the Ulster championship and it was a pity for them to have to travel so far in a short turnaround. I doubt the scoreline would've looked this way of our lads had to travel to Armagh

Absolutely ridiculous. He won their first Ulster in 20 years almost. Their second ever all Ireland just 2 years ago. I despise Armagh but McGeeney is an amazing manager and the reason they've been good for the last 5-6 years.
