Re the 2019 final my youngest was 6 at the time, my wife and older lads went in early and we went to see my father. It wasn't an easy decision but there was no chance of keeping him sitting in Croke Park for 3 matches. I was not alone in that but yes there was plenty of pint drinkers too. @OpenStandWall - that was one of the rumours going around at the time all right, that Offaly County Board had bought a load of tickets themselves and given them out for free. Another was that they put on a load of buses so that supporters, and particularly children, could travel to the match for free as well. Neither of them were true. Am surprised by a few things in that selection myself, and also think we'll probably see some changes to it. But still think that so long as there's no complacency, we should win it all right.

Sean is a great chap but people need to relax and stop putting pressure on him, yes he was the top scorer that year but wasnt in the top 10 scorers from open play. Real test is from now. But a great prospect but overhyping young lads isnt a good idea in my opinion

Our backs arent against the wall. We will have done our due diligence on Kildare, as they have good players, and we will need to know as much as we can about them. We will be properly motivated, get our on the day preparation right, and win the game. No outside noise will make any difference to that. A local journalist declared on the Wex hurling podcast this week that he will be very disappointed if we don't beat Kildare by at least 20 points. I couldn't believe my ears. I believe we should win but this sort of nonsense doesn't do Wexford hurling any good. We're not Tipp or Limerick. I'll be happy with any sort of win tomorrow Purpleandgold72 (Wexford) - Posts: 283 - 17/04/2026 18:16:57 2666968 Link 1 |

You are right. But he is a young fella with excellent potential if he keeps working hard.

I think outside noise does make a difference. The supporters started piling pressure on the team when everything started going wrong against Westmeath in the park. That could make all the difference. Worst case scenario tomorrow is it's too close for too long. The Kildare crowd get louder and we shrink. That can and does influence games.

Thats not what I meant by outside noise. Of course support can make a difference. And ours is largely pathetic outside of Croke Park. Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 19243 - 17/04/2026 22:57:53 2666994 Link 0 |

A bit nervous about today, Kildare will throw everything at wexford, but I think it will be close up to 60 minutes until wexford pull away, kildare have only 15 decent hurlers but no bench, also most of the kildare supporters will be in Newbridge tomorrow for the football so dont think it will attract a big kildare support today fathermurphy (Wexford) - Posts: 339 - 18/04/2026 08:14:41 2667001 Link 0 |

I wouldn't take much notice of what he spouts tbh. He's an overly emotional supporter first and foremost and his passion for Wexford hurling is clear to see but it's a fantasy statement to think we'll be beating Kildare by that margin. We just need to win the game, 1 point victory will do. Them onwards and upwards. YellowShadeOfPurple (Wexford) - Posts: 66 - 18/04/2026 09:32:26 2667009 Link 0 |

If we need to motivate ourselves with shtick like our backs are against the wall stuff to play Kildare then we truly are in trouble. (Not sure how our backs are against the wall in a competition that hasn't even started yet) I seen a comment about beating Kildare by 20 points and how we shouldn't think like that cos we aren't Tipp or Limerick. Its because we dont think like that that we aren't like Tipp or Limerick. A comfortable win, liking away in the 2nd half is my prediction and absolutely we should be aiming to win by 20 points if we can. And thats no disrespect to Kildare because they are a good team but we are a far better team and need to show it. We aren't nearly ruthless enough, Westmeath a few years ago a prime example where we weren't and got caught and the same can happen again unless we develop that ruthless streak and when the chance arises push on and put up that score. We need to change our mentality, not backs against the wall and fighting for our future the nights darkest just before the dawn stuff. Thats the mentality that holds us back because it relies on things being in a bad way before we react. I hate that mentality, I dont believe in a siege mentality, I believe in not being under siege in the first place. We need to be more arrogant and I mean that arrogance in a good way nit constantly looking for our motivation to come from bejng up against it. We've been trying that schtick since 96 tearintom (Wexford) - Posts: 1643 - 18/04/2026 09:52:36 2667010 Link 0 |

Very disappointed watching the minor match. Loads of frees. Started well but really lacked any power up front for scores. Seemed to find our scores harder to come by. Why weren't we given a free for the advantage at the end when the Wexford player hits the crossbar when fouled just before this??? Thought one too many passes. Laois away next week who ran Galway to four points. alwaysasub (Wexford) - Posts: 592 - 18/04/2026 14:26:51 2667042 Link 0 |
