Harsh lesson to finish off like that but what can you do. CarlowJuniorB (Clare) - Posts: 68 - 03/01/2026 14:51:43 2649516 Link 0 |

Brilliant perfornance from carlow today. Our older players were outstanding and showed how valuable they are. Still slick on their feet. Nice not to win so we can aim to win the shield. Bimb (Carlow) - Posts: 559 - 03/01/2026 16:52:10 2649548 Link 0 |

I wouldn't say it was a brilliant performance at all. We were cleaned out at midfield and struggled badly on our own kick outs. Saying that we looked like we had it won when four up late on but Offaly brought in Cormac Egan and what a difference he made. We had no answer to him. Still it was a good run out and plenty to work on, especially our own restarts. Results don't matter this stage. Great debut for Adam McCarron who scored 2-3 at least maybe more before going off injured. The two Roche's from OL also played very well on debuts. Great to see an all Carlow management team with Barry Hayes a big addition on the sideline. Onion Breath (Carlow) - Posts: 1721 - 03/01/2026 17:48:23 2649567 Link 0 |

A touch os sarcasm in my post...... Agree we were desteoyed at mid field. We needed more mobility there but ended up with less. Kick outs were an issue again and in fairness to goalkeeper very little movement outfield for kick outs. Agree the ol defenders add grit. Adam mcarron had a dream game, the kind of thing makes obc worthwhile. Conor doyle is our rolls royce and we need him at midfield. Finding a partner will be difdicult. I think john phiri is an option. There are a good few regulars to come back. I really hope colm hulton can continue as he started today. We will reserve judgement until league starts. I think we will be decent.

Think he's being sarcastic, oniony. No one could call that display brilliant. We did some good things but once Offaly got moving our backs were badly exposed. Young mc Carron was excellent as was paddy mc donnell sean Murphy made a difference until he tired late on. The lads we were missing are too important

Fair enough. Agree Hulton was excellent and beat his man constantly with that typical drop of the shoulder and burst of pace. A great addition this year he could be our main man in the forwards. We should do well in this years league. It's as weak a division 4 this year as it has ever been. Our two toughest matches are the first two. I'd take two draws now. If we get them I'd say we'll go up. Onion Breath (Carlow) - Posts: 1721 - 03/01/2026 18:40:59 2649577 Link 0 |

Yeah we still have lad s to come back. All is not lost but mid field is very impirtant with new rules which is a worry

Interesting to see how we use choo choo this year. He's not going to be able for midfield at this stage but he'd be some threat close to goal if the right ball is played into him. Simply put he wins every 50/50 and has some burst of pace and strength. The likes of Kevin Murphy, Crowley, Mc Carron playing off him and we could have a powerful scoring threat. Midfield will be our problem. Have to get someone to share the burden with Conor Doyle. Onion Breath (Carlow) - Posts: 1721 - 03/01/2026 18:46:44 2649581 Link 0 |

Serious road trip for first game. Funny enough i think with full squad we will be suited to hitting antrim in break. I think having a strong mid field is biggest issue. And of course a well drilled kick out plan

I think our biggest issue is that we have a summer team. They play much better on good ground. Antrim up there, on what's likely to be a cold wet and miserable day, does not suit us at all.

Not being smart, but I would assume so. KCLR said they were skiing. So unless they've won the Lotto, you'd expect the trip to last less than a month.

Whoever you are hearing that from Blackbog is having a good windup. 11 staters from limierick / cork games last year And 3 more on subs.. check your 2nd hand info before posting, if that indeed is the case

In the last 20 years or so the best midfielders we have IMHO hve been Brendan Murphy and Thos Walsh, two players well able to mix it with others and secure clean possession against the best of opposition. A question I would have is where is young Jordan Morrisey, I know he is a high academic achiever and has done well and has been travelling, but some player from a young age. His father was a top quality midfielder but arguably had more to give.

Jordan is in Boston last I heard. I think he won the US championship there with Donegal. He's in the prime of career and fitness/strength now but unfortunately he is where he is and I can't see him coming home to play for Carlow. No doubt he'd love to but he's a high achiever as you said so I doubt his earning power could be matched this side of the Atlantic and the lure of playing for Carlow, even the YIs wouldn't be enough I'd say. What a difference he would make. A complete midfielder.

Our two biggest issues are that we have a summer football team and we are incredibly light as a team. We saw it in the OL game Vs Port in Leinster. Our important players were man handled with ease. Say what you want about the football Turlough had the lads playing but our players were big and good on the ball. We had a very strong spine in the side. The difference between our hurlers and footballers is stark physicality wise. CarlowJuniorB (Clare) - Posts: 68 - 04/01/2026 11:27:50 2649676 Link 0 |

Jordan would be crazy to come home given the state of this country for young people right now.

Lads with all the football hype again this year, the hurlers quietly go about their business and stole the show with their performance this weekend, once again!! Outstanding performance against the All Ireland semi finalists, featuring 11 players from team that defeated Limerick l6 months ago (who are arguably the goat Of hurling), as opposed to the footballers loosing to a 2nd tier quarter final looser from last year, both by similar margin... well done all today..
