Meath played Mayo in a challenge in Longford at weekend. What kind of line out did Andy Moran put out? Heard Kobe McDonald played but Meath won out in a game of two halves!

Kobe is an exceptional player, seen the scores, boths Halves one sided, must of been bad wind, think mayo shouldn't bother playing Kobe especially with him going to OZ. They should be playing lads that will be on the panel next year

Getting excited about a challenge match behind closed doors in December is pretty sad.

There was a bad wind we went in 12 up at half time with the wind. But I wouldn't read anything into challenge matches. Guess Andy wants to keep on good terms with Kobe .

I guess you are right. It must have been a really weakened Mayo backline to concede 24 pts against a backup Meath forward line aside from Kinsella and Costello. Early days. Kobe must be going to be used for the league all the same and not sure Mayo should be setting themselves up for more disappointment of losing him.

No Ballina guys as they are being rested. I'm not sure other then that who Andy had lined out . It's good to let Kobe go off on good terms with Mayo . We still have plenty of other young talents that Andy has called up . I'm more intertested in Sundays game which is being shown live on Mayo gaa .

Meath are a good side not saying your not just I don't read much into these games in December !

You've been slagging Meath for months, talking about them getting hammered by Donegal, slagging Galway for being beaten by them.

But now that Meath have hammered Mayo in a challenge game suddenly they're a good side? Which is it

Cavan were fantastic in Castlebar. Fully deserving winners.

Donegal and Galway got off to a flying start in 2025 national league. Donegal, Dublin, Galway and Armagh of course were all favourites going into quarter finals. They'll all be chomping at the bit to tear into 2026. Tyrone then and Mayo will be in All Ireland contention as well.
7 main All Ireland contenders again. Up to the challengers to mount a challenge.

ALL IRELAND CONTENDERS - 7
Donegal, Armagh, Tyrone, Dublin, Kerry, Mayo and Galway.

PROVINCIAL CHALLENGERS - 7
Monaghan, Derry, Cavan, Meath, Louth, Cork and Roscommon

TOP 16 BATTLEGROUND - 7
Down, Fermanagh, Kildare, Offaly, Westmeath, Clare and Sligo.

By the looks of things you are expecting big improvements from Mayo, Dublin and Galway. Kerry obviously the stand out team but they found hunger and a bite late on in the championship this year that may be hard to continue to deliver. They are still strong favourites. Donegal and Armagh despite a few retirements and changes should be formidable again and the next best although both need to come out of there zonal defence straight jackets and risk being left behind. Tyrone need an attacking gameplan with some bigger men upfront. Hard to figure out where your coming from with Cavan as a provisional contender?
Louth and Meath will come back with renewed confidence following successful campaigns last year.
Cork with Sherlock available should be better. Expect lots of surprises again.

I know you are a Football man but you are really blowing smoke up some holes there.
Being realistic there are 3, or maybe 4, AI contenders, with a chance 1 of the other 3 or 4 counties might just have a season where everything goes right for them. But to call them contenders right now is stretching it.
Cork arent going to win Munster or even come close. Soooo unlikely Cavan will win Ulster either. A couple of your other provincial challengers would be surprise winners if they win, so does that really make them challengers at this stage?
And just picking the next 7 off the League pyramid for "top 16 battleground" is just lazy. Laois will finish above some of those counties in div3 next year, as might Limerick.

Replying To Viking66:  "Not sure that. Hard to see Galway being any better than Wexford or Dublin unless they find a few breakout players like Tipp did this year. Darragh McCarthy was only coming on as a late sub for their minor team 3 years ago. Obviously ourselves and Dublin might find some too. As I'm sure every other countys supporters are hoping for as well!
Thinking back to last year and who I was expecting to be competitive this year, or even earlier this year tbh, I'd have to be honest and say I didn't see Tipp or Dublin getting to an AISF, never mind one them winning the Final.
In that way the Football was way more predictable, the 8 QFs contained the 6 teams I was expecting to see there, and there was only 1 really surprising result at that stage, Meath beating Galway. I think by next year most teams will have a few more reliable 2 point kickers than they had this year also.
In terms of advance predictions, complete guesswork I know, Kerry will be the team to beat, with Tyrone, Armagh, Dublin, Galway and Donegal again making the QFs.
In hurling Cork and Limerick would still be the teams to beat, Clare will bounce back and Tipp won't be bad. Waterford, its hard to know. I honestly think Leinster is entirely unpredictable at this stage, whichever county can get and keep their key players fit will be there or thereabouts. Obviously if any of the counties can get 2 or 3 new players to burst on the scene in their early 20s that would be a massive boost for them also."
This year the right players will be lining out for Galway hurling.
