They didn't give these nation's league 'pot4s' a pot to pee in really. Away to a top4 seed, and if you fluke that, you've another away assignment to a superior seed who's just won their semi. Mission impossible for the nation's league outfits surely.

Hmm I think Sweden in Pot 4 could still be a threat if Isak and Gyokores are at full fitness come March.

I stand corrected regarding Wales..... if Wales fail to beat North Macedonia they would drop to Pot 4 and The Republic would go into Pot 2. If Wales win v North Macedonia, Wales go into Pot 2, The Republic remain in Pot 3 and North Macedonia go into Pot 4. katser (Galway) - Posts: 2755 - 17/11/2025 17:03:48 2645091 Link 1 |

So Ireland made the play offs before and after Stephen Kennys era? Did he have a lot of injuries to key players? Kew (Galway) - Posts: 277 - 17/11/2025 17:39:58 2645100 Link 0 |

Or maybe they didnt bring him over in the 1st place? Maybe he wanted to come here to get a job playing rugby for Leinster?

Don't think there will be many handy teams in the draw..let's face it who would have thought the republic would get their last 2 results..my wife and myself sat down and watched the 2 games and the joy it gave us was fab.. I would consider myself a Gaa man before other sports but I don't care what Irish team it is I'll always enjoy when they go well..it's a huge boost for the country and now everyone looks forward to march.. Could be. I thought IRFU brought himself, Lowe and Bundee over as project players and put them in Leinster and Connacht squads until they were eligible for Ireland. Gibson Park, apparently, wasn't stuck for offers from top clubs before he came here.

I think Stephen was more interested in getting Ireland to play a game that would be more attractive for the pundits including Dunphy to be able to swoon over. The beautiful game. We just weren't any good at that. He forget about the basic tenet of the game - get the ball into the oppositions net - as soon and as often as possible and by any means.

Most sports allpw players qualify on residency in some form. He qualified and i dont see why it would be better for a lesser player to be starting Gibson park or any other qualifying on residency is better than any player just rocking up because they've a granny and never spent any time living in Ireland like plenty soccer players Nationality these days isn't as straight laced as you make out. Thigs are far more fluid. H3 was signed to play for leinsterm he stayed. Got more contracts and worked up to play for irelandm KillingFields (Limerick) - Posts: 3858 - 18/11/2025 05:58:34 2645132 Link 0 |

Maybe they're sparing themselves for March. They've had one draw in 5 games in group b, including home and away losses to Kosovo.

Don't think thats the case at all. Why pay a fortune for a project player? They were all good players who wanted to come here to work. Maybe part of their plan was to move here permanently and start a family. None of them were current internationals, though all 3 might have made it there if they had of stayed, they were all pretty young when they moved here. Some lads just want to test themselves in the other hemisphere, Barrett and Ioane are here now for that reason. Leinster also pay well, think they have the highest wage bill in Europe. I doubt either will choose to stay here, although Barrett did spend part of his childhood here. Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 17552 - 18/11/2025 10:24:15 2645154 Link 1 |

Lads are allowed to move to a different GAA club, or county, based on residency.

Nationality is not complicated or "fluid." A piece of paper does not make you Irish or Japanese or Swiss.

What is nationality if it is not complicated

Could well be. Their group stage qualification efforts were a disaster and they sacked Tomasson midway through. Potter is there now and it's possible that he wrote off the last two games. By March, he could potentially have Isak, Kulusevski, Gyokores and Elanga all motoring a lot better than they are now. And that would be a problem for any team to face.
