A bit funny how MacCools v Dungloe u21 game is on tomorrow when the other 4 games in Div 1 were completed today. Does this not give MacCools an advantage?

What advantage is it ? There is no real jeopardy when 8 out of 10 teams go through . Dungloe would have to win by 23 points to go through so I dont think it really matters

When the last time all 3 representatives exited Ulster at the first hurdle? We have had a good record in recent years.

A a few of the naomh conail players owe our club nothing, a few all Ireland medals in that team already. Not to many all Ireland medals in Monaghan

On a more positive note, well done to scotstown, they were by far the better team the last 50 minutes.
Naomh conail actually started well first ten minutes but did not get the scores.
Scotstown were a lot bigger team than Naomh conail and dominated midfield.
We were just very sloppy on the ball today and scotstown got a lot of there scores in the first half from our own mistakes.
Probably missed K Thompson in the middle of the field for his experience.
I would say we will lose of few of the older heads, Anthony Thompson, brick, Leo, Brendan, great club players with 7 county titles a few Ulster's and all Ireland's. legends of our club.
Time to rebuild with some of the younger players and see what comes of it.
Still county champions so it's been a great year

It was always a tough ask to go up to Clones and beat Scotstown without Ciaran. I think Scotstown will be hard to beat in Ulster.
The 4 week break didn't help as we seemed to be off the pace especially in the first half.
As you said we are extremely proud of our players. To win the Dr Maguire without Ciaran was a great achievement.

If we get back Kieran Thompson next season and find one or two more corner backs, we struggled with pace in the full back line. Keep Ethan and Gallagher and Malone along with roarty and max Campbell, we have the spine of a good team. I can see the older players stepping away, they can't play forever and own us nothing. The most successful spell in our clubs history this past 20 years.
I remember a time when we would be over the moon winning an intermediate championship.
Scotstown look a reasonable good side, a lot of experience mixed in with younger players. The Hughes and mc carron, beggan. No one will beat them easy, but if I was a betting man, my money would be on kilcoo.

As regards the county setup, I hope he gives roarty a rest, don't want to burn the young man out to early.
I can see Max Campbell being drafted in to the setup.
And maybe Malone and Gallagher.

Too many clubs in Senior Championship. Needs a shakeup. 16 should be reduced to 12.

It means top of Intermediate is way below that of other counties.

Monaghan, while a smaller population, has 10 Senior clubs so Intermediate champions are around 11th best. In Donegal it's around 17th best.

12 clubs in Senior, 2 groups of 6, seeded based on League (makes League more important), 5 games, top two in each into semis.

Same in Intermediate & Junior and maybe look at a second Junior level to include top reserve teams with bottom Junior clubs.

Not sure about that. Mayo, Tyrone, Armagh, Kildare, Meath, Galway, Dublin, Cork all have 16 club senior championships. There are others too.
I think Donegal is big enough to do the same.

I managed to get to the Goath Dobhair v Four Masters u21 game on Saturday.
It was a very entertaining contest. Four Masters were the better team and deserved their win. Although credit must go to Gaoth Dobhair for making them work for it. At one stage they were 8 points down I think, and they battled back to reduce the lead to one. But Four Masters then worked a really slick move to produce a goal and that was that.

The goal really summed up the Four Masters performance. They way they move the ball so quickly and get shots off is very impressive. I haven't seen any other u21 matches, but I would say Four Masters will be hard to beat. It's a very competitive competition, and things will only liven up further from here once the group stages conclude.

hard luck to NC as they came up against a good Scotstown side which was always a tough assignment in Clones especially. Can hold their heads high, an extraordinary county title when you think of some of the matches across the championship, deserving champions and as mentioned by the keeper I would expect some legends of the game to be stepping away anois.

on another note I was really delighted for Roarty to get the All Star and YPOTY, he has been a sensation all year, I hope he gets a good rest now and doesn't make an appearance until round 3 of the league for Donegal. I was also over the moon for Brendan McCole as I thought he may have lost out due to Clifford's all-time performance in the final (though I still think Brendan did ok all things considered), but glad he has been recognised, one of our most consistent performers and was excellent throughout

I think Conor and Shane O'Donnell have been hard done by but at the same time the nature of the All Stars there will always be some missing out. Outside of Donegal I was glad to see Conaty get one, he was on course for POTY before Kerry's 2nd half against Armagh.

Whole heartedly agree, been very poor at Senior level since Gweedore won it. Junior we tend to do ok when the Junior team is playing division 2 league football. Muff last season got to the All Ireland Junior Final. Overall we do need to change the structures of the championship. League football has become a non event, make it so division 1 = Senior Championship, Division 2 = Intermediate and division 3 = Junior it would make leagues more competitive. Also I think running off the championships so soon might have led the teams to being undercooked, nearly a 4 week break for most teams since their county finals.

Taking the numbers down to 10 or 12 senior teams isn't going to change much in my opinion.

Masters will walk the 21s. Glenties didn't hit the form yesterday at all. It was a pity the two goals went in the first half. I know they fell at the last hurdle but would Gweedore of had a better showing yesterday, I'm sure a Glenties poster above said the same before the co.final or maybe I was dreaming

Four Masters are rightly favourites for the U21 championship but I doubt they will walk away with it. It's now in the knock out stages where the stakes are much higher.
I think the 4 week layoff did Naomh Conaill no favours yesterday. They lacked match sharpness and missed a lot of scores early on. Scotstown were ruthless in the first half and had only 2 wides. They are a top outfit and will take beating in the rest of the Ulster Club Championship.

Been around the county the past 2/3 weeks and chatting to different people in different parishes when delivering and a few words going about that down a few men from last year squads that have been mentioned here, word that the Monaghan based player is one of them.

Any new additions floating about yet? Championship top scorer isn't 1 of the new 18 anyway."
Which Championship is that? Neither top scorers in senior or intermediate currently involved unless they're part of 18 called up.
