Disaster bringing these games into PS especially under lights. Older people will not travel as they are afraid of freezing in there. Families will not bring smaller kids due to cold and bedtimes also Neutrals will not travel as its PS Secondly unfair on players to be playing under lights in a semi final when they aren't used to it and clubs not set up to train under similar lighting conditions All in all a big own goal from county board to bring it in there. I believe the lack of an old head cost the bridge in that game as soon as the town started coming back it always felt ominous that the town would pip it. The bridge only niland and salmon as their older heads at 26/27 compare to loughrea with coen, hoban and hanrahan etc. Thought killean was outstanding best he's played all year and the younger morgan was very good when he came on. Why don't ye wait and see how it goes? Playing the semis as a d/h under lights might be a terrible idea. It might also be a brilliant idea. Let's see what transpires with the football semis this weekend? We are forever lambasting the CB for things we don't like that have or are happening. Some of the excuses being made for PS under lights being a terrible idea are risible 'old people getting cold' as if we are basking in the heat of October as it is. It's not like the temperature crashes when the sun goes down these days. And all of these players have trained and played under lights before and it's the same conditions for all 4 teams involved, unless one team has an advantage I'm not aware of, but I doubt it. Give it a chance. If it's a terrible idea on reflection it might not be repeated. I'm not a great lover of PS but it was in great nick last Saturday given the conditions of the previous day. Hopefully the weather will be good and not too windy but also you can have windy days anywhere. One thing is for sure, the novelty will bring its own sense of occasion. PS under lights should be given a chance. Good for clubs in west to be able to bring kids into see two good matches, hopefully will be good for hurling in west. and traffic will not be a problem on a sat evening, nor will people have to turn up an hour before the first game to get a seat in the stand. batitout (Galway) - Posts: 75 - 12/10/2025 19:13:20 2639538 Link

The more lads with hurls in the their hands the better for the county team. Rather than taking shots at clubs west of the Corrib who have work doubly hard to keep hurling going, there should be more done to help the development of young talented hurlers in those areas. As was mentioned, Pearse Stadium gives a better chance for young lads from the other side of the county to see a couple of cracking matches. It's an effort to try something different, and as was mentioned it ensures a lot more people get a seat in the stand. Let's give it a chance, rather than sticking to the safe status quo all the time. Take for example the young followers of Moycullen who never play a senior hurling Championship game outside of PS , open to correction on that one. Its not their fault I'm sure , but why not let them play championship in Athenry - far better chance of enhancing the Gospel there than in a stadium that lacks atmosphere and gives everyone a logistical nightmare. Great we're catering for just Spideal, Breathnachs, Moycullen and not for the clubs and their supporters who are actually playing. All to give little Johnny a chance to watching Daithi Burke in a half-empty stadium just so the county board can show off some new lights. Also, there will be traffic. I'm from a dual club and attended the football on Saturday and there was loads of traffic and I ended up arriving late for the first game as a result. I left my house over an hour before throw-in. I think this 'Athenry atmosphere' thing is a figment of the imagination. A flattish terrace, coupled with a tiny stand, that you'd need to be a vip to get into. Poorish viewing vantage points all around, especially when packed out for semis and finals. Doubly disastrous then in inclement weather conditions. . Lets not forget the players in this discussion- I think if you surveyed them , Pretty sure that there would be an overwhelming majority in favour of Athenry. Senior semi-final days in Athenry are the best day on the local GAA calendar, bar none. The atmosphere is brilliant.
