(not saying Cork deserved to win, they didnt, but I'd say it was a traumatic loss, and Meyler has said that it was for him personally)

And Limerick were five up v Offaly with five to go in 1994"
Well he had faced us earlier in the season when we played a lot of the game with 14 men and we drew with them in their stadium. Perhaps the word you mentioned there is the problem - 'Tradition'. Thinking you should beat someone because you once did is sheer folly.

Being outscored 2-11 to 0-4 was more about an inability to match a side who hit 5th gear as opposed to anything traumatic. But if that's how he feels about it then fair enough.

Davy Fitz is the man that Cork need. Davy's nous would get the rebels over the line. He did great when Cork involved him with their camogie team a few years ago. He was a bit take and well liked on Leeside. Alas, he's already taken up with Antrim. It's a boat that Cork definitely missed.

Cork Chairman has said they won't be going outside the county for a new manager on his watch.

It can't be anyone who was involved with Pat Ryan (since the the Cork County Board wanted Pat Ryan to stay but replace the backroom team).

Ben O'Connor is the chosen one if he wants it. I'd be gobsmacked if Ben was interested and they went any other direction.

seems obvious now that Cork County Board didnt want Ryan to stay
Imagine the outrage if Cork had won the final, and the County Board insisted that Ryan staying was conditional on agreeing to a three year term and changes in his backroom team?
Losing the final meant Ryan lost the ability to go out on his own terms and he chose to walk
They could have backed him to come back next year and win it all but they didnt
A year from now it will be seen as a ruthless but smart decision or a big own goal

Yes, it appears that a 3-year offer was on the table but with the caveat of backroom team changes. Knowing Pat and how loyal he is, that was always going to be something he would struggle with.

It's there for Ben if he wants it, and I'd imagine he definitely does. I expect to see this wrapped up in the next 5/6 days.

Despite the **** some people are spouting, I don't believe there was ever better time for anyone to become Cork manager than there is now.

Imagine getting to take over a team who are already genuine all Ireland contenders, (and will continue to be contenders for the next few years at least). Expectations amongst most knowledgeable supporters will be dampened a bit by the last two All-Ireland finals and there will be some slack given by Fans and the Media the for the first year anyway.

If the new manager could win the All Ireland next year (and Cork have a great chance) they would be set up for life . Never have to buy a pint in Cork ever again.

Biggest job an incoming cork manager has is putting some bottle in those players.

Is there a possibility of donal og being involved with Ben o Connor??
No doubt the hurlers are in cork but it looks like a mind thing with all Ireland.probably a few big calls to be made with some older players..maybe some of the successful 20s will get more time also and go the Liam Cahill route..

All sorted pretty much. Big job, but a good man for it.

Good luck to him but not at our expense. The rest don't care who is driving the bus in Cork. I am sure he will do well if he can keep the passengers sitting in their seats.

Have no fear, Ben will keep the passengers in check, and the County Board Officials in their own separate taxi following behind.

Also I expect the bus to be like the local link, picking up passengers from some non-hurling stronghold destinations.

Ben does get a bit animated on the line (think Davy Fitz Style) and will put pressure on referees and officials which won't endear him any opposition management teams or supporters while creating hysteria amongst the Cork fans.

Ben v Brian Lohan on the line could be worth the admission fee alone, when Cork and Clare meet in the Pairc next April/May
