Replying To Green&Gold2013:  "I'd argue they should be at least making a county quarter final each year considering its population base and lack of other sports competing against hurling. Two county titles is an underachievement. Maybe I'm wrong but I have never heard a hurler going around saying he played in 10 county quarter finals and expecting a clap on the back. It's all about who has the medals and everything else is a kick in the you know what."
Didn't l Rea beat portumna in 2010
semi final also ?? But I would agree they didn't get it done often enough in spite of the opposition's quality
But seriously can you educate yourself regarding some of your statements here , no other sports competing !!…….I would say every sport from rugby ,soccer ,football , athletics, tennis , basketball ,volleyball, squash, and more take place at a competitive level in Loughrea , and in regard the population , true it is large in number but a significant portion of that is a transient workforce and more still simply move to the town but represent other clubs , Loughrea are an outlier in terms of a town with a successful hurling club , look at Ballinasloe for example, truth is Loughrea are a small enough club with a fraction of the membership of some of the clubs they are competing with

Squash, volleyball and tennis. Stop the likes. Hurling is number one. They don't have players saying no I won't be at training today I am going playing in the county volleyball championship. Soccer and football are also only hobby sports in Loughrea. Apart from one maybe two they don't lose potential senior hurlers to the sports above like what might be the case in the city clubs. Like most town clubs in both football and hurling they have a soft under belly.

I wouldn't say loughrea are a smaller club. Compare them to the likes off Tommy larkins cappataggle ahrascragh fohenagh mullagh etc I say the membership is double if not triple than these clubs and more. Look at all the underage loughrea has had the level they are playing at over the years. Granted there are times when a good crop comes with the rural teams and can beat the teams like loughrea turlough, sarsfields etc. It's been like this for years.
Loughrea in my opinion would be classed as bigger teams with the likes of turloughmore sarsfields Clarinbridge oranmore (recent years ).

Sarsfields a big club? Surely not! The population of New Inn and Ballaun combined would be small enough I would think!

Good win for the u16 Galway side to win the Eugene Carey (A all-ireland) cup again. Beat Tipp handily in the final after narrowly getting over Cork in the semi final.

A win for Galway in the u15 Arrabawn cup final to go on top of the u16 cup win today. A very strong minor group next year by the looks of it.

Maybe to loughrea and Clarinbridge etc But compare them to their neighbours cappy , ahrascragh pearses killimordaly they are more dominant than these teams. Sarsfields are more competitive in the A championships underage and are always there or there abouts. Next weekend i can guarantee most people believe sarsfields will beat cappy even though they bet cappy them last year. People still believe sarsfields threw away the game with the changes they made.
Sarsfields are always gonna be classed as a big team as they are always competitive in alot of the A championships and are there are there abouts in the championship..

It's great that you managed to disagree with your original post so saves me the bother ,
Anyway , soft underbellies aside , Loughrea are the current county champions , and medals , as you say are all important ,
