Replying To GreenandRed:  "Did Andy or Leitrim County board get Mickey Graham on board?

Regardless, in his 3 years of intercounty management/coaching experience his record shows that in two of those years the teams were promoted."
One promotion. Year one and two with Leitrim they didn't gain promotion. Under Terry Hyland was the other promotion.

@tirawleybaron one of the reasons why Moran left and Graham followed him was the knowledge that so many Leitrim players was opting out for the 2025 which suggests they didn't leave a happy environment behind. Poacher then took on the job and had pick up the pieces with a depleted squad and forced to play a host of their U20s.

Back to Andy Moran one of his most talked and hyped wins was as U20 manager when beating Mayo in 2024. What doesn't be brought up when that is mentioned is that was Leitrims only win in that U20 campaign and were well beaten by Mayo in the shield final.

P.S Andy the player had plenty of physical strength and was well used in his playing days.

Apologies, meant with Monaghan too when he was forwards coach.

Replying To S1234:  "It's not Andy Morans fault that Leitrim don't have the players to be able to beat New York sure. Leitrim put in a good performance against a deflated Mayo team who's management days were numbered and everyone knew it they lost the dressing room at that stage."
Yet that same Mayo team nearly won a Connacht final against Galway (last years AI runners up) a few weeks later, would beat Tyrone (this years semi finalists) in Omagh and should have got at least a draw against Donegal (this years AI runners up) in the Hyde. So I wouldn't go playing the poor mouth too much.

Replying To Tirchonaill1:  "Jim managed the Donegal U21's to an All Ireland final, a final we should have won. Andy Moran has plenty of experience, I wouldn't worry on that level."
I forgot that about Jim, I stand corrected. I'm in two minds about Andy. Negatives are experience and yet to prove himself. That said he's passionate and will bring energy. His coach and backroom team will be key. Al this is assuming he gets it.

Andy has plenty of management experience so don't really see that as an argument.

Coached Mayo U20s and Monaghan for a year each.
Managed Ballaghadereen in the Mayo SFC
Managed Leitrim seniors and U20s

Of course you can pick holes at what he did in those years but equally I think he's made for the Mayo job. As a player he was one of the most clever forwards in the country.. exactly what we need assuming there will be some player turnover in that area of the pitch.

Going on reports Tony McEntee is the other leading candidate.. how can somebody who lives over 3 hours away do the job to a decent standard? Maybe if Jim Gavin was in the running it'd be different but I fail to see what's so brilliant about McEntee.

Andy Moran confirmed as the new Mayo manager, remains to be seen if he'll be upgrade on Kevin McStay the last three years.

He's been a great servant to Mayo GAA and I know his heart is definitely in the right place but I feel its just too soon for him. The way Mayo managers have been treated recently is not somewhere I'd like to see Andy going. He's going to need 6 years and the first 3 of those are going to be barren. Think of what McGeeney achieved simply because he was given time. A 3 yr cycle wont work in Mayo. I wish him the best of luck he really is a great guy.

Remains to be seen? He's definitely not. His club experience, for example is the grand total of 3 months as 'player / manager' of Ballaghadereen. It's laughable that he's now Mayo manager. Mayo will be waiting for an All Ireland that's for sure.

Best of Luck to Andy, a pro and a gentleman. His achievement in getting Leitrim promoted cannot be overstated.

Are the Mayo Senior Football team a 'club'?

You mean Mickey Graham's achievement... fat lot of good that did at the end of it all.

Not going to that difficult to be an upgrade on McStay's second and third year in charge.

Wishing Andy well in his new role. I know he's well aware of the scrutiny which will come. He always comes across very well and seems like a very sound and level-headed individual.

What did Andy Moran do to upset you Square B?

From Andy Moran's appointment in Leitrim you have led a campaign of criticism against him, despite what he achieved.

Andy brought a buoyant approach to Leitrim football and was very popular with the players.

We wish him well with Mayo and hope that he can lead them to that elusive All Ireland

Of course it remains to be seen.. sure there's no intercounty game for another five or six months?

Definitely a better choice than McEntee anyway.
