Can Jack O'connor Over Take Jim Gavin?

(Oldest Posts First)

Jim Gavin second best after the great Micko.

Jack O'Connor has 4 All Ireland as Kerry manager.

He is level with the great Sean Boylan and set to overtake. Can Jack overtake Jim Gavin?

Mick O'Dwyer 8 titles
Jim Gavin 6 titles
Jack O'Connor 4
Sean Boylan 4
Mickey Harte 3
Paidi O'Se 2
Dessie Farrell 2
John O'Mahony 2
Billy Morgan 2

Every year Kerry have league under Jack O'Connor they have won championship. Can they succeed again?

Well if he stays long enough he probably can, Jim Gavin has managed 6 All Ireland wins from 7 attempts, that percentage success is out of O'Connor's reach for sure! Micko well off it too!

The standout performer on that list is Gavin, senior intercounty manager for 7 seasons, 6 All Irelands, 7 Leinsters and 5 national leagues

I think he can overtake him over the next couple of years but to be mentioned in the same conversation of the greatness of some of those on the list he surely has to do back-to-back titles? Something that has eluded him so far.

The sign of greatness is back to back in fairness - the old seige mentality fails in year 2 - so it takes actual qualify management to motivate a team that everyone is praising to find something extra in year 2, 3 or even later.

Gavin, Cody etc were able to get their teams so see the All Ireland as being theirs and looking at the opposition as trying to steal it from them, like a family stopping someone from stealing their child.
