In the hat for tomorrow that's all that matters. Need to tighten up at the back conceding an average of 25 points per game in the last 4 games. That said all going well with scoring.

Replying To winatallcost:  "Well ask me about any of these seedings and I can explain the logic. Galway only scrapped in 3rd place but have them top of the 3rd seeds. The competition doesn't lie. Down have more than a 50/50 chance of knocking them out.
Connaught was not competitive this year.
Kerry also well down on merit. They will beat the poorest team left but will lose by 5+ next week as long as Armagh don't take off the handbrake.
Monaghan only team to win all group matches and Meath unbeaten also."
Who do Meath want in the draw? You'll be hot favorites.

Why was Hernon taken off?
He was one of our better defenders. I said after the last day that O Flaherty and Hernon should start.
We're making heroes out of opposing keepers. We won't get away with that for much longer.
We're unstoppable when attacking at speed. We don't do it often enough.

Sean Fitzgerald was touch tight to Pat Havern most of that second half. Havern didn't score from play with the wind. Mightn't get the headlines but top class after holding Andrew Murnan the week before

Fair play to Down ..lovely style of football and will rue the missed chances. But definitely cannot blame ref. Some debatable calls both ways ( like most games) but on balance I think Down did fairly well out of the officials today.

He gave away a free just before being hooked but was going well but so was McHugh to be fair

A win is a win, as i said last week we need to put Gleeson back in goals, Conor Fla is just not up to it and nearly cost us the game, hopefully lesson learnt now, on the plus side a better all round performance some great scores, they cut us opened easy at times but i think that will happen now in the modern game, hopefully Shane will be ok and maybe Damo might be good for 10/15 mins,

We enjoyed the trip to Newry, lovely venue and good hospitality in the town. It was a tight game. Galway missed a few sitters in the first half and Down missed scorable points in the second half. I don't think the ref was up to it tbh. Both supporters were unhappy with him.

The most frustrating thing about today was the missed goal chances and this is becoming a trend. It's bad finishes as opposed to good saves. Look at Downs first goal today, great low finish. Off the top of my head, Thompson in the Connacht final, perfect height for Reape in first half. Dublin in league in Croker, Walsh to Finnerty. The last day in Breffni, Thompson second half, McDaid butchered one in the first half and we missed 2 penalties. Again today Finnerty, Hernon and then Cooke was basically 2 v 1. These need to be finished

Galway or Donegal. Galway good forwards but new goalkeeper and leaky defence plus a few knocks. Match Donegal energy (they will have to go to the well again) and should be able for them from football standpoint. Donegal just try and outrun teams but may not be good enough to win an All-Ireland. You obviously want to play Meath?

I've no preference as long as we are Sunday and ideally Sunday in Castlebar if it is Meath and Omagh if Monaghan. How would three hours on a bus suit Meath? We are training for bus journeys all year.

Its great to be in the QF. We will need to improve in a number of area to progress much further but the team definitely deserve a solid pass rating so far. 1) Connacht champs 2) AI QF 3) last 5 games have been in the top 10 games in 2025 for entertainment value. Mayo, dublin, derry, armagh, down. Well done lads.

By the sounds of Joyce after the game, Comer will be a full go next week. Trained fine this week and you'd imagine another session or two this week and he would at least be an option for 20 minutes if needed.

to me he appeared to be way of the pace and was trying to see through too many bodies feom behind the play. having said that the new game is hard to ref and one needs to be super fit.

He seemed to be out on his feet in play before taken off

That's two games in a row where he kicked the ball out over the sideline as if the field wasn't big enough!
