Great game in Nowlan Park today. Amazing comeback by Dublin after being behind 14 points behind at the half-time. I'm looking forward to their clash with Galway next week. Cockney_Cat (UK) - Posts: 2790 - 18/05/2025 22:47:17 2610806 Link 2 |
Was trying to think whether I had imagined that myself! Was talking to someone who reckons it was 20s the last time Dublin beat Kilkenny before I think it was even called after Mr. Nowlan. Last time seniors won there was I think in Walsh Cup 1964. According to now deceased player. Won in Castlecomer around 1989 when Lar was there but no other league win I can recall. Cracking game. Loved how we fought back from a desperate start. I won't start with ifs and buts but we had our chances to win it too. It was a great spectacle for hurling in the province. Pity nobody got to see it despite Limerick and Cork being over by the time the game was in the closing stages. ExiledInWex (Dublin) - Posts: 1348 - 19/05/2025 13:41:51 2610963 Link 0 |
A rant from me. ExiledInWex (Dublin) - Posts: 1348 - 19/05/2025 13:47:29 2610966 Link 0 |
Dubs v Galway will be a cracker. It wont be for the faint hearted I reckon. It will show us where we are currently at. Full house in the Neller - it will be electric. Hopefully we put in a good performance. Fionn (Dublin) - Posts: 4264 - 19/05/2025 13:51:40 2610970 Link 1 |
I predict the attendance next Sunday will be the lowest ever for Wexford v Kilkenny in the Senior Hurling Championship. I just can't see too many people paying up to €25 each to watch what's the very definition of a dead rubber in terms of this year's championship. Kilkenny are already through to the final and Wexford will finish in fourth place, no matter what happens there. Pikeman96 (Wexford) - Posts: 2876 - 19/05/2025 14:47:18 2610994 Link 0 |
I will be there myself but I fear it will be a low attendance. Some people will have already bought tickets so theres nothing the Leinster council can do now regarding pricing. I hope our supporters get out and support the lads in whats the last inter county game until May for our county which is crazy from a promotional point of view.

Kilkenny fans are not going to pay €25.00 and then kids for €5.00 for what is now a glorified challenge match, when they have a Leinster final coming up Wexford will more than likely win as Lyng will use this game to get minutes into his subs and rest the lads with any niggles etc. Such a pity Wexford have nothing to play for. We have even less to play for than Kilkenny. The lads who Lyng selects will be playing for places.

I remember years we were one and done.

True. I remember years gone by when we were knocked out during May as well. Or much the same - maybe having a relatively easy quarter-final in May, but then getting knocked out in the semi-final just as championships were warming up in June. Gone before the real business of that year's action started anyway. Pikeman96 (Wexford) - Posts: 2876 - 19/05/2025 20:09:19 2611130 Link 0 |
We should be starting our provincial championships now, not finishing them. ExiledInWex (Dublin) - Posts: 1348 - 21/05/2025 12:44:59 2611523 Link 1 |
Better for who? I know for a fact that the players in my club wouldn't want to go back to it anyway. Pikeman96 (Wexford) - Posts: 2876 - 21/05/2025 13:58:40 2611554 Link 0 |
I think it would be better for the promotion of the game. As it is, we will have 2 months now with about 5 hurling matches. Who does that benefit? I remember somebody put up a calendar with club weeks last year, it would be a huge step but it can be done too. I get that players would not go back to it but is it good that clubs only start training in April? I would say its not. ExiledInWex (Dublin) - Posts: 1348 - 21/05/2025 21:00:17 2611644 Link 0 |
Most club adults were training way before April

Realise this is a Leinster thread rather than specific to ourselves here in Wexford, but .... Fact that our club leagues started at end of February for football and the middle of March for hurling makes me seriously doubt that any club waited until April to start training! I'd say you're in a minority here. From a club player and county supporter I think it's borderline miraculous the GAA has stumbled on the current system. Media of course need to fill column inches and will eventually complain enough that the system will be changed again so you may get your wish but I'll enjoy this while we have it
