Come on anyone who doesn't think Cluxton has been the best man between the sticks in the last 15 years hasn't much of a clue. Only keeper near him has been Murphy and he had Moynihan Marc O Se and Tomas O Se in front of him. Dublin would not have won any of the last 3 All Ireland's without him. He is the most influential keeper ever to play the game

Murphy is a player that can do great things but he goes out of games for so many long periods you forget he's playing plus he's only on the seen since 09 AlanBrogan has been brilliant since 02 and don't tell me Dooher is a better half forward than Alan ,Connolly or Flynn no way is he, if any other county besides Dublin won 3 All Ireland's do you really believe Spillane wouldn't have one outfield player from that team, it's an insult to Dublin football these will go down as our greatest ever team and players and were the second best county there's ever been yet pat doesn't think we should have one outfield player on his team #joke

I am probably one of Connollys biggest fans but I don't think he has done enough yet to be considered. Brian Dooher was a fantastic player he was a different player to Alan Brogan and Connolly. He was a serious link man and a workhorse of the highest order. In my opinion he was the most important player in the Tyrone team even more than Sean Cavanagh was at the time as he did the dirty work and didn't want any plaudits only the success. Flynn had a poor year this year albeit with a very good final but I also would probably just have Dooher ahead of Flynn.
If this team is made in 2020 I would expect Connolly , ROC and Brogan to be in it with Cian O Sullivan, Flynn and James McCarthy not far off

Darren Fay full back. Moynihan centre back. If some of the players Spillane picked didn't have their best years this century then Fay has to be number 3. Moynihan was the better footballer but Fay was the better full back. Some player.

5 years of canavan is still far better than anything Bernard brogan has produced. Brogan has went quiet at times. Even in last 5 years of canavans career every single time he touched the ball (or even just made a run a la mugsys goal) he caused havoc. Joyce was better than Brogan but still not better.

Does anyone genuinely think in the next 10 years the 2 brogans will be remembered like canavan was ?

Brogan between 2010-2015 was better than Canavan 2000-2005 there is no question. Canavan is being picked on his past which isn't the question in the article the question is team of this Milenium. Canavan was very good in 2002 and 2003 and was good in 2005 as his career was finishing. Brogan won player of the year in 2010 , an All Star in 2011 2013 and 2015 and was nominated for player of the year in 2015. As I said Canavan was in my opinion a better player and probably will be talked about more than Brogan when people talk about the greats and his performance in 1995 etc. but in this Milenium Brogan has to be on the team ahead of Canavan.

Moynihan probably doesn't deserve to be in the team either he is picked on years previous and he was a centre back in my opinion. As already stated Darren Fay was the best full back in the era of Moynihan but didn't play enough football in this Milenium and I believe that's why he wasn't picked.

With the logic Spillane used big cases could be made for Darren Fay and Trevor Giles with John McDermott a definate at midfield.Fay is the best full back of the modern era imo.

I'll be 100% biased here but no player bar Gooch was a more skilful forward than this man. While Gooch played in some great teams Ciaran Mac was supplied by men with a lot less ability than the Kingdom players. George Best claimed Pele told him he was the best ever. After losing in 2004 and 2006 Kerry people tried consoling me and told me genuinely how they though Ciaran McDonald was a legend. I do believe that a footballing opinion from a Kerry supporter is a good enough recommendation !

Canavan was completely unmarkable,
He had unreal pace with two outstanding feet and was as strong as an ox for such as small man,
He carried Tyrone to within touching distance of the all Ireland in the 90's,
Canavan is the most complete player on spillane team of 15,
The most consistent performer I've ever seen,
The likes of the Brogans, Mc Donald, Flynn, Connolly wouldn't lace Canavans boots,
Peter the great was in a different class ,
I cannot understand anyone questioning his inclusion.

Did you read what this poll was about before deciding to comment ? This poll is the best team from 2000-2015. What Canavan did in 95 by almost winning an All Ireland on his own isn't counted. if this was a poll of the best players over the last 30 years I would agree Canavan should be in it but when it is compared over only the last 15 he shouldn't be as players like Brogan who has been nominated for an All Star every year since 2009 except 2012 have contributed more. This shows how influential he has been. If we are taking into account players who played some of their best football pre 2000 and finished their career post 2000 but not at the same standard Trevor Giles and Darren Fay should walk onto this team.

I think its interesting to see that with the negativity directed towards football these days we underestimate some of the modern players. Dublin have emulated what tyrone did in winning 3 in 5 years yet this team has more tyrone players than dublin. Its Mr Spillanes opinion of course, but Dublin's lack of representation here probably has more to do with the negative reporting and image of football currently, than the players inherent ability. When Tyrone were beating Kerry all we heard was puke this, blanket that now that team has moved on the players are getting credit for being good footballers.

Its similar with Dublin, ' They're not good footballers they're athletes' they have funding this that and whatever. They suffer in this team selection because they are still at the centre of the begrudgers storm and it'll take a few years to accept and recognise some of their very talented players. I'd argue ROC is a better full back than Moynihan as Moynihan was a superb centre back but it seems all star-itis has hit here and people are moved around to accommodate names but Darren Fay and McAnallen were probably better than both but over a shorter space of time in these 15 years tragically.

15 years is a strange time to do it over and as some posters have pointed out great players have been left out due to playing only in the very early part of those 15 years.

The best full-back that I have seen play since 2000 was the Fermanagh lad Barry Owens. Unfortunately a litany of injuries including heart problems curtailed his career but at his best he was peerless. Moynaghan was an excellent player, but as a half back not as a full-back.
